1.8 zetec

Problem or technical question?

1.8 zetec

Postby jonyb4 on Tue Dec 22, 2009 6:03 pm

ok ive always liked the 1.8 zetecs, and i understand thers two versions, well three if you include the 130spec rs1800 item

but im struggling to see the difference between the 105bhp escort version and the 115bhp one found in most mondeo's

why is there a 10bhp difference, how is it gained over the 105 and what is needed to bump up a 105 to 115 spec?

also how can you tell the 105 apart from the 115 without a inlet pipe stating the bhp?

ive never gotten my head round this, can anyone shed any light?

thanks jon

The inlet manifold and possibly mapping for it. 105 uses a cast inlet and 115 uses plastic.

If this is for a MK3 Fiesta, I wouldn't bother with a 115PS setup. Go straight for a 130 setup using 2.0 cams, 130PS inlet, keep the existing MAF sensor, 2.0 Mondeo throttle body converted to fit the alloy inlet (or use an RS1800 throttle body) and find a 130PS ECU from a 130PS Escort, Orion or RS1800. Make sure it matches the EDIS type of the engine loom you're using though (internal or external), or you'll need to modify your engine loom.

It's not really worth the hassle of making the changes for the sake of 10 BHP and next-to-no increase in torque.
