98 diablo red 106 Gti track car SOLD :-(
Decided to put our track car up for sale, as we will not use it as much as planned this season.
It's a 1998 (S) 106 Gti in diablo red. The car is on 117k but we fitted a replacement engine this winter, as we bought the car a non runner (the valves had broken in the original engine.) The engine is now on around 77k and is a very good runner.
The car has 6 months tax, and is going in for an MOT next week so will have 12 months for the buyer. We have kept the car road legal to make it easier to store/get to tracks.
The car has the following spec.
INTERIOR
Stripped out carpets/trim etc and fitted 2 bucket seats (unknown brand) with red 3 point sabelt harnesses.
Momo style red suede steering wheel
EXTERIOR
The paintwork does let the car down slightly, as there is lacquer peel on the bootlid/bonnet/roof/passenger door. There is also a dent in the drivers side door where the latch broke in the wind. This was the main reason for making the car into a track car, as the paintwork doesn't really matter so much! I did give the car a good cleaning session yesterday and it came up quite nice, even with these downsides.
Upgraded front brakes to 266mm with new brake discs and EBC ultimax pads.
ENGINE
As mentioned above, replacement engine fitted and it's very strong. Currently fitted with standard exhaust for MOT/"road use" but we also have a magnex full system with decat, which has had the centre box removed and sounds very nice (whilst still being within noise regulations for most circuits).
The car also has a cone air filter on custom pipework.
WHEELS/TYRES
The car has one set of 5 standard raptor alloys with good tyres for the road, plus:
A set of 4 VTR alloys, painted in polaris grey and fitted with Toyo R888 tyres for the track. These tyres are extremely good for track use and still have a few track days left in them.
Since we have had the car it has done a few days at Lydden Hill (our local circuit in Kent) and I also took the car to Castle Combe for the spring action day. It managed 400 miles over the weekend including 2 sessions on track without fault.
A couple of pictures:
We have replaced quite a few parts recently to get it up to track standard. If continuing then next on the list would be a roll cage and an lsd in the gearbox. It's an extremely fun track car as it is and it kept up with a lot of "faster" cars.
The only other downside at the moment is the power steering pump is not working. We are looking at getting a replacement fitted but the car is still drivable without.
Looking for offers around £800 including a fresh MOT. Any questions please ask, but bear in mind i will be on holiday next week, so probably won't be able to reply a.s.a.p.
