More News on the MK4 :)
I've decided, the Fiesta project is no more. I will be learning in the Fiesta, and I do plan to drive it for a bit after I pass my test until I get comfortable driving and think about getting another car (MK4 Golf, only insurance group 4 to the Fez's 6).
It hasn't really been an easy decision, but with the prospects of a new job and a pay rise I've been thinking about wanting something a bit newer and a bit more modern too, and I thats the MK4 Golf which is also going to be cheaper to run? I'd be a fool to run around in a 15year old car, paying silly amounts for insurance when I could be driving a much newer car and paying a fair bit less.
So, the wheels are on eBay and I'll be looking to sell the bodykit, RS1800 suspension, and slowly all the other parts I've brought for the car as well. The interior will stay in until I come to sell the car, when I'll put the standard interior back in and sell the SI one.
Insuring the Fez this weekend on my provisional and can't wait to drive it!! Like I said, not been as easy decision but I'm pretty sure it's the right one.

Re: Change of plan...
I had thought of that mate, keep it, Get it finished and use it as a weekend/show car in the summer
but, I haven't really got the money (at the moment anyway) or anywhere to put the thing. We've got one single (tiny) garage, and parking for 3 cars.
But my step dads car (which will be put in the garage as its only used weekends), his work van, my brothers car and my car... That's all the parking gone so when we get visitors its a struggle for parking really. It doesn't help that no fcker round here actually uses their garage. They've all got garages full of sh!t which should be in the skip to make room for their cars!!
Been a bit hesitant of posting on here because not sure what the response would be to be honest, but I'm just doing what I want to do, and lifes too short to sit around going against what I want to do to please other people, spent enough of my life doing that already.

Cheers Jay,
This is the plan. Ins Group 4 with wheels and lowered a bit, instead of ins. group 6 with bodykit exhaust wheels interior and all sorts to declare!
But Black or Silver....

Eurgh. Can't say I'm a fan of Golfs to be honest, except really old ones. The newer ones are 90% of the time driven by dickheads round this area and too many times have I nearly been killed by them lol.
Its a shame, I would have liked to have seen your Fiesta finished, but you have to do what you have to do.

Re: Change of plan...
I used to like them, in fact I was looking around before I thought of Fiesta's, but since seeing the amount of knobs around this area who drive them I seem to have negative connotations now, except for MK1's and MK2's. Especially after I had a full Coke bottle thrown at me from one on the A2, hit me square in the side of the face.
What I have to ask though, is why the newbies are starting projects then abandoning them for Golfs? It just seems strange that all 3 of the latest newbies have started to sell up to buy Golfs

BigUKG :Who else is that??
I heard EUFez, Nisi and Fiestaben so far! lol.
How long you keeping the fez before getting the Golf then Alex mate? Doesn't matter what you drive btw, you'll still be welcome at the meets
Btw- you may be suprised come insurance time - the Golf is a group 4 but due to the larger spare parts costs the insurers tend to bump up the premium. When i was getting quotes first time round the M reg Fiesta 1.1 was £1400, and the equivalent MK4 golf (newer) was £2.5k!

Re: Change of plan...
Just did a quote on chruchill (not planning on insuring with them btw lol) but a Mk4 1.4 was 1600 and Fiesta just over £2k.
Churchill are rubbish anyway but lower insurance on the Golf. Not forgetting Fiesta would be bodykits and all sorts, which would fall under one bracket so for all they know could be some moron with an aftermarket kid and silly racing seats.
With the Golf, it'll be wheels to consider n thats it.
Yeah and Nick and Jay, I am glad there is a bit of a "fair enough" attitude. Good to see, and Nick you'll be seeing me at a Bluewater meet eventually!

Tweek :Lack of passion
I've already told you, I'm not a Ford enthusiast
Have been a lover of the MK2 Golf since I was about...6... my older brother had a Red 5dr MK2 GTi with a 2.0 Audi engine in it.
Proper BBS alloys, lowered a bit (by Essex Racing), £2,000 worth of speakers, and the engine was race tuned for more torque less top end.
It was a 2.0 that only did 110mph flat out, but got there fookin quick.

Re: Change of plan...
Mikey I don't think FT is doing anything wrong at all, actually I think it's probably encouraging a lot of people to stick with their projects. It's a decent, supportive environment for people who don't know a lot about Fiestas but want to learn. I've learnt so much since I've been on here and I'm so grateful for everyone's help with my idiotic questions
I think the real problem with Fiestas is they aren't a cheap car for the first time driver, i.e. lots of money on insurance for not much car. Especially Porper/Peasant Ben who would have to put up with no power steering for his rev counter Seriously, the amount of time I spent hating him for having a rev counter, then I found out he has no PAS
But it is a lot of money for not much car, and if people have cars in insurance group 6 that need a lot doing to make them look decent, its not going to happen. I think its a better investment to learn in the Fiesta and run it for a bit, while I save for the Golf. I would like to have a Golf by the end of April atleast but I'm not sure if thats realistic or not. Depending on whether or not I get this new job will make a massive difference as well cos I might be able to afford one. The investment in buying a Golf will mean cheaper insurance for ever lol.

Re: Change of plan...
Just browsing a few threads on UKFN and come across this nugget of advice for more Fiesta drivers wanting golfs -
Benham @ UKFN : If you go down the Golf route, get as late a mk4 as possible, the early ones where not good to be honest.
Early ones can be a bargain, but petrols especially suffer quite a few ignition problems and they're not afraid of the odd HGF either. Gearboxes occasionally crumble to peices too. Being a Volkswagen they're never the cheapest things to repair, this is probably the crunch.
Regards,
Andy
