Fiesta 1.1LX 5 Door - Sold!
First Car!
Hi, been a member on here for a while but never realy posted much apart from a few questions lately. Well I’m nearly 17 and have had a car for about a year and a half that my dad bought me so I could fiddle about with it and make it how I want it before I was 17. Never been able to get any decent pics of it because its been in the garage all the time with no tax/MOT.
He bought me this, fiesta 1.1 LX 5 door :
How it was the day we got it:
And here it is today:
Things I’ve done on it since ive got it (Most of these are mechanical so you cant see them in the pics:
- Xr/Rs Bodykit (also have the arches and skirts but not fitted them yet)
- New wing mirror (last one was broke when I got it)
- New backbox (standard for MOT)
- New front brake pads
- New rear brake shoes and cylinders
- New Spark Plugs
- Tappets adjusted
- Painted Bodykit myself, but not happy with the front bumper, made a big mistake and painted it in the cold, went all cloudy, so needs repainting
- Clear Side Repeaters
Fairly happy with it at the moment, just need a decent set of alloys and the rest of the bodykit fitting…
Its got a few dents and scratches, but i think its quite good for a first car
Let me know what you think…

Re: First Car!
As its getting close to my 17th, i decided to send it in for the MOT on saturday. As i expected, it failed but only on 2 things which suprised me:
A CV joint gaiter was ripped and Emissions were too high on 2nd fast idle test, but the tester told me it just needed a good run with some redex put in because it has hardly been driven in the last 2 years. Not bad for a 14 year old car
;
When we got home though, the problems started: put it in garage and came to it an hour later to find a puddle of water under it
after a quick look, we spotted the water pump/gasket had given up on us.

Re: First Car!
Decided to buy a few parts for it today:
- New Water pump and gasket
- New thermostat
- New timing belt (it had to come off anyway, so why not replace it)
- New CV joint Gaiter
came to a grand total of just over £30
will be fitting these today or tomorrow ready for MOT retest on Saturday

That looks nice one mate, really good to read you're looking after it aswell. It's always a nice feeling after you've fitted some new mechanical parts

Re: First Car!
cheers everyone, ye trying to keep it looking standard as much as possible, dont want it looking like the parts are just stuck on for the fun of it, no-one likes that
and ye, nothings more fun than messin about with cars, been messing about with them with my brother since i was about 10, learned loads off him.
Why pay someone else to do jobs on my car... thats the fun part
only a month and half till i get to use my fiesta... cant wait
and xrsi, cheers for pointing me in direction of some good alloys, but unfortunately, dont have the money at the moment as im only 16 and most of my money has been spent on MOT and parts so far

Re: First Car!
Looks like an honest, clean little car that I'm glad to see you've spent time taking care of. Tasteful modification is the name of the game. I would personally be thinking about some alloys - perhaps Mk5 Zetec-S multispokes would sit well on this car? - a slight suspension drop, a boot debadge and maybe a subtle or standard roof spoiler. Good work!
My name is Alex. I used to have a Capri. I don't anymore. But I'm still called Capri.

Re: First Car!
Small Update
unfortunately, went to fit the parts id bought today and the water pump was the wrong one, it looked exactly the same but was about 5mm too long , so gotta go tomorrow and get it changed
also bought a new rocker gasket as the old one is leaking slightly and a new oil filter, will be getting new oil in the next few days because it desparately needs an oil change...
so here it is as it stands for another day...

Re: First Car! PASSED MOT!!!!
Ok, first of all sorry about the capitals in the title lol, got a bit carried away.
Soo, me and my brother took the car for a new CV joint gaitor to be fitted and then its retest and it Passed!
as an added bonus they also reset my idle speed control valve? too
so now its all safe ready for me to drive in april!

Re: First Car! PASSED MOT!!!!
Well done! Always good to know it's passed! Looks a nice first car, good to see you're not going for crappy lights and "ch-av" mods!
By the way - established members - this is the guys first car - how many of you had a car, MOT, driving lessons, and parts, and still had money left to buy alloys at 16? The guy can't really be on much more than what, 7k a year?
I wouldn't mind but this is a gallery thread, no need to offer parts for sale to the guy - when he's in the market for alloys I'm sure he'll tell you or look through parts for sale...
Nick

Re: First Car! PASSED MOT!!!!
Cheers Nick, its nice to be led to some good bargains, but at the moment i just dont have the money.. been trying to space all the expenses out over a couple of months for stuff that needs doin to the car, so im not paying everything out on my 17th birthday. Lessons and tests are bad enough as it is... so wont be buying much for the next few months apart from things i need to keep the car running because i realy should start saving up for my driving lessons.
and ye nick, cant stand ch-av mods on a car, subtle good lookin mods all the way!

ok just a quick question for you all, how much do you think my car will be worth now with 12 months MOT? not after selling it, just curious...

Re: First Car! PASSED MOT!!!!
Cheers mate
A standard car is worth more than a modified one. I can tell from the body its a MK3.5. With low miles (~40k) would be say £400?
I was given £150 for my old one with 50k on the clock, but that had an underside made of rust!

Re: First Car! PASSED MOT!!!!
My car was £1200 for the first year, mines a 1.1, i think it was with lexham or something.
I went to renew it a week before my 19th birthday with Adrian flux declaring all my mods, they turned round and said to me if i can wait a week and renew it on my birthday they will be able to offer me a much better modifying policy.
So i did and its costing £900 on a modified policy, i keep adding mods all the time and its staying the same price.
So basically the first year will always be a killer mate, try quinn as suggested or try Adrian flux
Let us know how it goes mate.

Lol, Quinn direct love first year drivers but when you get to the start of the third year they give you extortionate quotes!!
Quinn offered me £1500 for my first car, no mods, TPFT, now this year, 2000 reg car with alloys, 2 years NCB, they offered me £2010.
Erm, no thanks, £970 with Adrian Flux does me nicely

Re: First Car!
Your best bet if you can is get one of your parents to insure it ,and namE you on the policy ,my daughter built up two years No claims bonus with admirals that way.The only problem is you cant have any accidents unless they have NCB protection.
Mind you she was driving the wife's car at the time as she didnt have her own.
