Postby Jay001 on Sat Mar 05, 2011 11:48 pm

Hi, well ive bitten the bullet and decided to do a full resto on my FRST, I started the strip down late Aug last year so some of the pic's you see are old but the progress is definatley there as you will see.

Looks nice until you start to take it apart, lots of hidden sin's

There was more rust on the rear strut tops but i forgot to take any pic's as i was in shock and wondering what i should do...scrap it and find another shell or carry on..i decided to carry on... :D

Hopefully gonna be as standard as possible with the exception of poly bushed and AVO coil overs. But also the way its going if i cant find some good quality door cards and handles im gonna have to come up with another solution.. but hey ho on with the pic's.

It got picked up by the bodyshop/restorer at the end of Aug last year and he didnt touch it till December as he was in the process of restoring a Mk2 RS2000 as well as running his bodyshop. The work progressed quite quickly as i had collected alot of new panels most of them genuine RS items Back N/S quarter, both front wings, back valance and new front end.
Image

Image
you can see he has repaired the chassis leg in this pic..
Image

Image
Then the work began patching and repairing the holes.
Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image
Then the panels went on with the exception of the drivers rear quarter, as i couldnt find a genuine one the guy didnt want to use a pattern one as he reckons they dont fit as well as originals, so we opted for an arch repair panel as the rot was just around the lip.

I got it from FROSTS its called classic transport coatings, engine enamel paint, i did do alot of prep to the block first tho, took it back to bare shiny metal and it took about 4 coats to get it that deep with a day in between coats for drying.

Ok mate cheers for the info, looking good so far. :Q

Mines only got a bit of rot in the filler area, but luckily right between the bumper and the bodykit meeting area, only 1" x 6" wide, so gna weld a piece in from a pattern part as its only tiny!!!

how long you expecting till its done?? Be good if ya get it done for fiesta in the park or Ford Fair!!! :D

Im gonna try, the original plan was to get it to my last local car show at Tatton Park in Aug, depends how far/fast i can put it together by myself, as that was the aim to get it to some shows this year. Gonna have to wait and see, dont want to rush it too much, and thats all dependant on remembering where everything goes

Nice build mate, if you haven't done it already, I totally recommend drilling out the spot welds on the inner wings inside the wheel arch and cleaning up the seams, as these are usually rusty where they join to the A pillar area. When these go, they let water in to the car.

lol, got my plexus from ebay, as with most of my other stuff, its been a big help in getting all my stuff together. Think i paid £6.50 for 50ml including postage and it was plenty to finish all studs.

There's still some listed just got that link for ya.

Its a base and catalyst, i squeezed both into the hole and mixed with a coctail stick then put the bolts with the notches in as you suggested, started to go off after bout 5 mins and solid in about 20-25 mins, i bought 2 originally and still have one left might come in handy in the future. Im gonna use rubber tap washers with the pennies on the back as they are a bit thicker than the ones that came off...bout 3mil thick

i just looked it up on the net and compaired it to the ma420 and its not that different from the looks of it.
working and setting time is the same, but the ma300 come in a smaller amount, which is ideal :)
the ma420 was also 2 part and the same cylinder had both parts in and it mixed in the nozzle as it came out, great one way, but crap the next as you needed a special gun to pump it out as it wasnt a 1:1 mix like the ma300 seems to be, so i think i will buy some of it and see how it goes mate :)

tap washers sound like a plan too mate

Fantastic work there.

Rot in the same places as mine, but good on you for sticking with it :D

I would also recommend back filling everywhere with WayOyl for extra protection. My sills, arches, roof, tailgate, etc.... are all covered on the inside :)
