D.J. - Slash cut was a good choice there, it follows the lines of the bumper nicely. Slash cut on mine would've looked like a terrible attempt to make it look Jap..or Porsche or something...?! I like how clean cut and simple they are

Why didn't you have another backbox on the left of the bumper, and had twins pipes each side - that'd be like a 997 or M3 then

Jay - It'll be around £300 for a full system, assuming it's nothing particularly special..ask them what they can do It's too easy to assume Powerflow are chive specialists, but they can do pretty much anything, and that means chive OR high quality, neatly-made standardish systems

He was telling me about some of the stuff he has to do, which he HATES (system coming through the boot floor and exiting through the tailgate for example ), but thankfully he didn't think mine was chavvy either Can you have one made for your bread van that will accommodate a loaf of Hovis Wholemeal?

I hope you're going to give the "exhaust through tailgate" option a thought. I think it'd suit the car well.

Urgh, services I've pretty much decided I'll service the Mk6 myself..will see how we (the car and I) feel at the time. Do you know the damage yet? When does it go in? And yes, I would hope he doesn't tell people their cars look chavvy and nasty! He did seem to like mine though, his favourite part being the bonnet lifters!

Love the 4 inch tailpipe. big improvement but in my eyes them ones look like they belong on a skyline.

I got my full magnex system for £80 including stainless downpipe. so you can get a full system without paying through your teeth.

the tailpipe on my magnex is a 3 inch rolled in but i plan to change to a 4 inch ouwardly rolled very soon.

Heeman - everytime i see your car i wish you still had your front bumper with the bumper insert as it looks a bit odd compared to the rear.

Well obviously, if you're buying second hand you pick things up cheaply! I wasn't really referring to second hand bargain deals dude, we were talking custom made stainless stuff! Good move going to the outwardly rolled 4", 3" is just too small, and being rolled inwards makes them look even smaller IMO. I know what you mean about the bumper difference. It doesn't really bother me tbh, and if I feel really keen before FITP I may put myself through the torture of giving the rear bumper the same treatment. The only problem is, getting a good paint match is not easy with rattle cans. I should probably just get my head down and do it though..there are a few tatty spots on the rear bumper as well. Damn you people for telling me what I already know I should be doing

jonosi - It's not too loud really, there are many, much louder cars around! Put it this way...I can put up with it on the motorway for a full tankful (220 miles), and that is all that matters And yes, there's just the one silencer, that being the backbox.

1. I spent about three weeks smoothing my current front bumper, and sanding/filling any imperfections on it, and strengthening the cutout till it was all perfect, then primed, filler primed and sprayed it red.

2. I would have to buy another bumper, do all that all over again, PLUS make an intercooler cutout, and chop all the back out of it again so it would slot over the cooler as well as my current one does.

3. I smoothed it because I wanted a bumper that would be easy to clean and polish up well, rather than having the dirt magnet that is the small gap between the bumper strip and the bumper recess.

4. I would still have a front bumper that didn't match the car colour-wise, and I'm still waiting for the right time to get the car into a bodyshop to iron out the many imperfections.

Impressive as always. New backbox looks much better... amazing what that half inch will do (waits for a smutty comment) but in seriousness your car still impresses me now and it's the little things that make a big difference.

Mish - Smut? Hey, this forum's all about smooth It's not just that it's an extra half inch, it's straight too! I'm glad you like it, thank you, though as Mr Knuckles has pointed out, I still have things to attend to. I'm not a major fan of spending ages on cosmetics, but I'm aware that no single area of the bodywork is as I want it. It always gets put off because I'm more interested in driving it or improving it mechanically. I suspect my actuator isn't up to the job, as it's backing off the boost again now, so trying to find an actuator small enough may be my next port of call.

the tailpipe really does look 1000 times better, its nice to seea different approach on the tailpipe and not having it rolled on the lip.

as for 4" tailpipes, there is nothing chive about them! mine has sported a 4" tailpipe since the conversion was performed over 4 years ago, and i think its the best looking size there as it isnt stupidly big but is big enough to make people realise that it means buisiness!

James - They need a 4" pipe just to look reasonable in the bumper moulding around the tailpipe IMO..any smaller and they look like a 1.1 exhaust I think I remember thinking the talipipe on the TDI (16v XR2i backbox) was huge, after the little pea shooter it had!

its kinda cool having a exhuast that shows your engine power everyone knows that theres power under mine when i start it up or when im comming or going you can just tell with the pur noise lol, same with you noh!

unlike the crap you see on the typical standard max power car ie nova,saxo,chavlier,corsa etc etc etc, which has standard power thats just about 60bhp screaming its small tiny balls off!! tin tin!! lol

Scrub a dub dub - To be honest it isn't really a great deal louder, it's just a cosmetic thing, and in general I think most modified 1.2 Corsas/Clios/Puntos are louder than mine!! Know what you mean though

It needs all sorts dude. It still cleans up fine, but has all sorts of issues, here, have a list

1. Front bumper, rear bumper and skirts/arches are off three different cars
2. Bonnet is off a different car and has two upward dents and suspected key marks
3. Roof has two dents in from 2002 when a student dropped something on it, is starting to crackle the paint with hidden corrosion
4. Driver's door is off a different car
5. Tailgate was shunted the day before my parents bought the car in 2001. Ford repaired and sprayed it, but didn't do a great job and I think I can see corrosion breaking out through filler they applied
6. Driver's door shut has a rust patch which is breaking out into the rear quarter
7. I chipped a tiny chip of filler out of the front bumper shortly after completion and painting it
8. Four minor car park dints and one or two imperfections in panels


I still haven't smoothed the rear bumper, but hopefully I'll get round to doing that, then spraying it before FITP. I've neglected the bodywork for a long long time while approaching the entire mechanical side of things. I still need to finish my cage properly (i.e. weld mounts to the chassis and extend it to the front and rear of the car), so I can see it getting a major attacking after this year's show season. I doubt I'll get round to any more than sprucing up the rear bumper and possibly wheels for this year sadly...here's hoping it can still pull it off at the shows

I thought I was having problems with the delocked doors having a slight dent in the filler & my mirrors fading a little!

Are you going to attempt the bodywork yourself & reveal a talent for painting aswell as mechanics? (metro aside lol!)
