dunno about bleech, might be a bugger to make sure its all dried out before using it again

id let it soak in thinners/solvent for a few ours fill it up and put cap on and then upside down or something, then give it a good shake and swill it out, thiners will evaporate in time so leave no trace then just clean it out with water to remome the excess


god V6's are a right headache, but strangly seing it in pieces makes me want one more!

Yeah v6s can be a headache, especially trying to get to anything to do with the rear bank. But hopefully it'l be worth it in the end!

heres a little question, on the V6s does each block have its own exhaust midsection seperate to the other? or do they merge into one?

The 2 downpipes from the manifolds are connected by a Y pipe, just in front of the cat, so only one mid section

oh is it possible to buy a seperate system to aid with gas flow, or is the misdection a large bore?

im not sure to be honest, not really looked at the rest of the exhaust lol only know about the y pipe because i have to take it off soon

Had another day out stripping the engine down, managed to:

- Remove Alternator
- Remove Engine Mount
- Remove Crank Pully
- Move Power Steering Pump out of the way
- Remove Exhaust Y Pipe

Managed to get timing set today and almost ready for heads to come off

Was planning on getting the timing chain cover removed today but was forced inside by the rain another job for tomorrow! lol

Going out into the garage now getting everything cleaned up, and possibly painted!

Planning on cleaning and painting most things thats visible under then engine bay to make it look a bit better.

*Should* hopefully have cams out and both heads off next time i get a full day working on it, then everything can be cleaned, heads skimmed and then the fun starts of putting it all back together with shiney new head gaskets!

lol that V6 is starting to look nice and small now thats some stress lifted llama

ugh im in a similar boat to you now, my timing belt worked loose/slack and damaged a valve or two on my Zetec so ive gotta take my head off for swapping it with another head, just easier on laybour to swap it lol, no need faffing about removing valves and seating them etc,

dont think i need to skim the head do i? only do that if its been blowing a gasket or something?

them drive shafts are very skinny for a V6 , look no bigger than my 1.3 shafts lol

Yeahh its looking too small now haha, only got to remove chain cover and chains now, then the heads can come off and i can see the state of the head gaskets

Replacing head on yours might be a bit easier, although changing valves isnt too hard (dont know if youve done it before?). Going to be removing valves and re seating mine while they're off.

I wouldnt think you'd have to skim head really unless its been overheating. Just check how straight it is when you take the head off, theres a test in the haynes manual that you can do using a straight edge and feeler gauge, might be worth just checking while its off!

and yeah the drive shafts do look a bit thin, but they do their job (very well!) haha

Okk had a REALLY good day out working on the car today, managed to get chain cover, chains, both heads and manifolds off!

Found taking them off a lot easier than i thought! guess putting them back will be the hard part!

Small Update!

Progress has slowed a bit because im waiting for my gasket set to come, so all i can do at the moment is clean bits up which takes a lot of motivation! haha

Been on fordpartsuk today and got a quote for most of the parts i need/want which i will be ordering tomorrow which are:

Head Bolts (x16)
Crank Shaft Oil Seal
Crank Pully Bolt and Washer
Exhaust Studs (x12)
Exhaust Nuts (x12)

Came to a total of £77.68 including VAT and postage which is cheaper than i thought!

Also should be getting both heads skimmed on monday, costing £28 + VAT each. Which again, isnt as much as i thought it would be!

Then its just a case of painting and putting everything back, then il have my car again

It is a lot of gaskets!! but most of them are just doubled up so not too bad quite good for £70 tho i think!

Quick update,

Got most things cleaned up and started painting today. Also dropped both heads off to be skimmed. Gotta wait till wednesday to pick them up tho

oh yeah! its a bit different haha, twice the size of my old fiesta haha still want that fiesta back!

and yup the upper inlet is going to be green if i can find a decent high temp paint, and im going to be brave and paint the cam covers white. Going to have to keep them clean if i do, but i think it'l look good!

Got a bit more done today. Gave my cam covers and inlet another coat or 2 of paint. Also run out of cleaner half way through cleaning engine bay so decided to paint my brake calipers and shocks. Only painted them black but makes them look a bit tidier!

Should have the heads back tomorrow from being skimmed and cleaned, and rest of my parts should also be arriving soon!

Nice shiney exhaust 'Y' piece. Painted the edges black, couldnt really get in to the gaps to clean proper with the wire brush:


Drivers side before cleaning and painting. Discs will most likely be replaced fairly soon. Not long since been replaced before i got the car but passenger side disc sounds like its warped slightly. Squeaks a bit when brake is on slightly.

Put a first coat of green paint on the inlets too, the green is a bit lighter than id hoped. Might get darker with some more coats, so will just have to see:




Also Put a coat of paint on Cam Covers, this is the colour they will be on the car, have fun keeping these clean!:

Big Update!

well me and my brother have been VERY busy for the last 2 days working on the car. Managed to get the engine bay looking a bit like an engine bay again! haha

Jobs done so far:
- Heads Skimmed
- Valves cleaned, regrinded and fitted
- Tappets and Rockers cleaned and refitted
- New exhaust manifold studs and nuts fitted
- Exhaust manifolds refitted with new gaskets
- Heads refitted to engine block
- New Head bolts refitted.
- All water and oil pipes reconnected.
- Cams, chains, tensioners and guides refitted and timed up! ( )
- New Crankshaft oil seal replaced
- Chain cover refitted with new gaskets.
- PAS pump and engine mount refitted.
- Alternator and Bracket refitted.

Most of the big jobs are now done and im planning on having the car VERY close to back together tomorrow, and HOPEFULLY, running again

Main jobs left to do are:

- Crankshaft Pully fitted with new bolt and washer.
- Rockers covers refitted
- Inlet manifolds and injectors fitted
- All wiring reconnected.
- Coolant tank refitted.
- Then lots of small stuff like spark plugs, HT leads, air filter, throttle body etc.
- Then fill with fluids and fire up

Took loads of pictures over the last 2 days but they arent on the laptop yet, will get them up as soon as i can!

ITS ALIIVEEEEE!

Been VERY busy over the last few days and finally got it all back together last night, turned the engine over by hand a few times to listen for any noises first. Then turned it over using the key with the coil pack unplugged. All seemed fine. Then it was the moment of truth! plugged the coil pack in, turned the key and it fired up first time!

Was a bit noisy to start with, then it quietened down after the oil had got round. Managed to spill oil down spark plug holes before cam covers went on, so it gave off a LOT of smoke when i first started it, but again, this cleared up after a few mins.

And so far,, i havent stopped driving it today (apart from once to check oil and water levels) and all seems fine!

Not took it above 3k revs yet (and wont be for a while), but you can definately feel the power is back, and the annoying ticking noise has gone... finally

Anyways, really sorry, but im gonna bombard you all with a lot of pics

Okk, to start with got both heads back from being skimmed, nice and shiney!


Front head with valves, tappets and rockers regrinded and refitted, and new manifold, gasket and studs and nuts fitted.


Rear head with valves, tappets, rockers, manifold etc.
