SNAP! - uh oh!

Problem or technical question?

SNAP! - uh oh!

Postby SammyBoy_01 on Fri Jul 09, 2010 4:23 pm

Ok installing some hoses today, wiggling possibly one of the most awkward ones off from up behind the engine and the connector snapped clean off and remained in the end of the hose..not sure if anyone has come across this before but how the hell do i fix it from here????? its so awkward to get to!

pictured below is the hose i was fitting if you recognise it, it goes into a double connector that has 2 plastic bits potruding that the hoses go onto. The bit i snapped is also pictured, im holding it at the end of the hose:

To get a better understandin heres roughly what as far as i can see the connection looks ike:

And heres what iv done to it now leaving just a flush hole and no way of connecting the hose:

Image

I couldnt get a good photo of where it is exactly situated and the connection but heres as good as i can get and you can roughly make it out:

All help would be very much appreciated on how to fix it...really dont fancy taking haf my engine apart to get to it :(

Thanks in advance

inside the car you need to remove the plastic surround from arround the gearstick and the handbrake and you will se a plastic box, you need to unclip the bottom part (needs extreme care as they break so so easily) then you need to wriggle it out of the way, my brothers was difficult to do but it can be done without removing anything else. and you will find a mini radiator, this is the heater matrix, this is what you snapped the hose off (dont worry my brother did the same about 2 weeks ago) you can remove this and inspect the damage, in my brothers case he was able to fit a new aluminium tube in its place as he works on cooling systems for a living. but if you remove it first to show the damage, in the mean time you will have no in car heating (not that you need it atm) but you will need to block the tubes off if you want to use the car. or you could join them together but i wouldnt recomend it.

as said, its the heater matrix mate, it happens to use all at some point.
tbh, there not worth fixing cos it may not last and that means wet carpet!

get a replacement mate.
mine leaked on me years back, and i just went and got a new one, i got my from lucus and its a full copper one inc the pipes, but lucus is no more so you cant get one from them, but other motor factors may get ya one, if there be all copper like mine i dont know though
