Made a few in my time.
Just cut around the boot carpet to get the shape and then screw on some strips of wood on the bottom to raise it up a little. Carpet. Job done.
All depends how professional you want it to look but this type has worked for me.

You can just use chip board 1/2 inch thick minimum.

Ollybee has the right idea.
Just a thin piece of wood cut to rougly the shape of the carpet. This will hold itself in place (at least mine does) with minimal movement. My amp is mounted on the back of my sub-box, to rescue a little boot space, but i've not seen that done too often.

Why does everybody have their subs facing backwards? I'm no ICE expert but surely its better to have the sub facing upwards? (for in car listening anyway).

Sub frequencies are omnidirectional so it makes little difference.

You can also try cuttting out the footprint of your sub box out of the floor and it will hold it in perfect place.

Another random question (sorry to hijacking post btw), does it matter alot if the sub is in a full encloded box or a partial enclosed box, i.e. no back?
And does porting the box make alot of difference?

All subs are designed to operate in different conditions which is why you can get free-air, ported box or sealed box subs. Also it's not just a case of buying a box for it to operate in they will have been designed to operate in a certain box size as well.

So if I say wanted to put a 12" 1200watt Sony Xplod subwoofer (hexagon shaped version) into my boot. What kind of home made sub box would i want and what sort of size? (i'm doing this on the cheap btw).
Basically what dimensions?
Thickness mdf (mdf is good to use yeah?)
What to cover it in (does it mater about the covering?)
And are there any problems with putting the amp under the front seats?
Thanks

In my saxo I used 10mm MDF, and used silicon sealant along the strengthening ribs on the metal panneling of th eboot flor - this stopped any rattles and held the floor down, but allowed me to take it out if I really pulled on it.

Most people do it so they can see the sub, but it has the added effect of giving the from of the speaker some room to breathe. if you shove it right against the back of your seats you'll end up making it sound pretty rough.

here is my design what i ahve at the moment all it is, is 10mm mdf cut to my boot lining and holes cut to the sizes of the amps and 6mm clear plastic
took a couple of days and 2 attempts with the wood and cutting but i like the finished effect.
it stands on some 5cm blocks underneath the mdf and doesnt move around at all, and i bought some small fans to add that little touch and to provide some air circulation.
hope you like my idea

im not too sure, as the box is in the attic somewhere, but on the amp it says 1600watts, so i presume its half of that, and it says 1200watts on both of the subs,

My sub cost less then £40 but in that box it outperforms my mates £300 twin rockford setup
Even bassboy was amazed at how good it was once we were done
