Blue Backlit Dash. *NEW PICS* +Instuctions!
(My needles arn't bright enough. )
EDIT: Sorted out needle prob. Got the standard dashlight and used blue bulb paint to make it very dark blue. Now it is Dimly Blue and only bright enough to light up the white needles (If using different colours you will need to remove the green filter - See further posts down the page for instructions.)
(Sorry about the pic quality. Digicams don't work well in the dark!)
Anyone have any suggestions on how I could make them light up or something?
Don't want to add a light back where the standard dash lights are. (Kinda defeats the object of having it backlit! )
Cheers.
Lee.

Some good ideas! UV light sounds good but won't the needles light up green? Will have to try to get some clear blue needles.
As for the dials they are ORIGINALS . Just wired up some blue lights in parallel and they are bright enough to come through the white markings.
Ask if you need help.

I just wired up 5 blue sidelight bulbs (use red, purple, yellow, orange or whatever you fancy if you can get hold of them!!!!) in parallel, insulated them and then carefully put them behind the dials (don't get wire or bulbs in the way of the mechs of the instuments otherwise your speedo might get stuck on 20MPH or summut!).
I them wired it up to the power for the dashlights. (don't forget to remove the standard dashlights or you won't see the backlight very well.)
I wouldn't advise on putting more than five lights in since it might get too warm in the dash or blow the fuse. (I blew the fuse when connecting it up - lost all my dash and centre console lights! Then took me half an hour to find out that its wired up to the sidelight fuse! lol.)
Also, Tried using blue LED's but they produce a focused beam, like a spotlight and don't light up all the dials, plus they are about 4 quid each! whereas I got the bulbs for 50p each (You can get them from halfords or Demon Tweaks but they cost more I think)
I got some blue bulb paint somewhere. May put a coat on the lights to make them deeper blue but I think they look alright and are easy to see.
Hope this helps. Lee.
P.S. Any probs, PM me.

Mine look like hard plastic Dunno what they are made of but it works on my original dials. I haven't changed nothing else!
I don't know if other fiesta model dashes like the 1.1 dials are different.

Sure! Could do yours in RED like Audi dials!
Simple to do, we just need some Red bulbs (or some white ones and some red bulb paint!) and a bit of wire.
By the way everyone, sorted out needle prob. Got the standard dashlight and used blue bulb paint to make it very dark blue. Now it is Blue and only bright enough to light up the white needles.
MadCatCraig, this may be a bit of a prob since it will be hard to make red light shine though where the standard bulbs are. (There is a green filter there) but the filter may be removable or we could find another way to light them up!

jus CAREFULLY use a knife to get under the white plastic cap on top of the dash and slowly peel it off! it will be a bit hard but it will come off in the end. then just put ya hand thru the gap and take out the crappy filter thing! i did and it looks much better with coloured bulbs!
reverdy rev rev!

That is brilliant mate. Well done.
I was thinking of doing this by carefully (very!) cutting out the numbers etc. ... but this shows theres no need!
nice one

This is how i've done my blue front lit dash, using a small (4") neon stick.
- Open the dash
- Remove the 2 dash-lights
- Get the front of the dash
- Remove the 'white' top
- Remove the green lens
- Drill 2 holes on the both ends of the white top
- Stick the Neon tube on the white top
- Lead the wires out
- Connect the wires to the transformator
- Connect ground and +12volt wires of the trafo to a dummy dash-light-bulb (empty lightbulb holder) (soldering)
- Put all back together again (leave the green lens)
- Connect the dummy bulb to the dash.. ATTENTION +12V is the nearest to the windscreen...

It's a Dutch car (-: ... so no miles.. those are Kilometers.. ...
Just ad about 100.000km to that ..
Oh .. that's the nr of KM the car has ran .. the engine is still at 80.000km
p.s. 1 km = 1.6 mile ... so the car has ran just over 60.000 miles.. and the engine just 50.000

The neon is pretty bright..
It's not to big ..4"..
the brightness can't be adjusted at the neon side.. so a filter of some kind wil be used in the future..
greets

FezzR GIRL :lower the voltage
Won't work, it's a TubeLight, wich works on high voltage.
it's either on .. or off..
But it was worth a try (-:

I changed the filter in mine, used a bit of cd case in place of the green one and painted it blue. But it was too dark so I took it out and now they are white lit. It looks lovely I think.
