Next Step's in Tuning (2i)
i have a xr2i(8v) and the only engine mods so far are a K&N induction kit and a full magnex ss exhaust, just wondering what you guys would advise tuning wise,
i was considering a performance manifold, but which would you recomend??
i was also looking at cams and a ported & polished head, is this the right way to go or is it just a lot of money for not much in return????
(p.s i dont want nos)

this is wot i think
u r runing say 110bhp at this time.
I have spent over £3000 and i get 132bhp=22bhp 4 3G
that is £137 4 1 bhp
so i say it a lot of money 4 not much in return.
but it is fun and u can do some saxo
and if ppl say they have 140bhp it balls

i think the best thing u can do is wot they r all doing
and that is the 2L zetec.
lots of ppl have dun that mod and love it .
and go 4 the alpha throttle bodies kit it has most of the bit u wont 2 put the lump
But the kit cost £1595
but then u get 165bhp and no lag

Driveshafts are compatible, so no probs there.
Haynes sell a £15 CVH tuning manual which covers race and rally prep for the CVH, both naturally aspirated (i.e. the XR2i) and turbo'd (FRST).
2.0L Zetec is a very good engine and well worth going for.

I have a 2.0 ZVH ( Zetec bottom end with CVH head ) it also has weber alpha 40mm throttle bodies as you can see from the pic.
Its a grate engine that revs to 8000rpm all day long, it also has grate torque with big power too.

I was told 30-40bhp more but when i built my engine i did everything at once, the ZVH, head, cam, throttle bodies, fuel pump and so on.
The last time my car was on the rollers it put out 193bhp at the flywheel it should have 205+ now.

I made one up from a kit for a 1800 Zetec
You will need a diffrent manifold
make a pipe for the water temp sensor
If you use the EFI head a alloy plate needs to be made up for the inlet ( i can send you a paper cut out of one so you can have one made up )
I had to use the injectors from the 2.0 Zetec kit cos i have a 2.0
Theres no room for air filters
You need to make a tube for the air temp sensor
Then you have to get it mapped for the 1.6CVH cos there is no kit as yet for the CVH but its all worth it in the end and the sound is grate

3k is a lot, you can get it done for about 2.3k
The kit costs £1800 then then theres mapping and paying somone to toe/transport your car to the nearby alpha dealer to have it mapped and set up
Weber will swap the manifold for you if you ask them

XR2i 1649 - u spent 3 grand and only have 130 bhp. What did ya spend it on, as I cant see carbs or throttle bodies which I would have guessed woul;d bumo it up to 3k. Or maybe u include 3 grand with other mods other than tuning. Id say that Throttle bodies would be good on a CVH but carbs wouold be so much cheaper and simplier, simply bolt onn and jet up.. u may need a little wiring though but not sure.

Sounds lie u have been busy. Whats ur 0-60 and 1/4 mile times as all that tuning stuff sounds impressive but whats the scorre on the clock. Im torn between keeping my 2i engine and doing something similar to u but hopefully not at 3k, or just bung a 2l in on carbs. Does ur car shift pretty well?
