Making list of parts for ZETEC TURBO... Help...
Hello people... I am bored... just been for job interview... lookin good to start soon...
So, Exhaust is blowing (maybe shafted / gasket shafted) so i'll be looking for a new exhaust, I have a full ashley mild steel system at the mo,
What would be a good manifold to get, Will be after stainless steel manifold and system with a 3/4in tailpipe...
Also i'll be after a chip, cams maybe and anything else...
Its a rs1800 engine, any1 any idias on a exhaust and prices, chips and prices and any other things to make it faster and run better...
Cheers dudes...
There is a manifold on this page, what ya think... http://www.trustelectrical.co.uk/html/zetec.htm

do u find your exhaust bangs on speed bumps..? i swear my bad runnin is caused by a knackered zorst due to it banging on everything it goes over
as for all the tuning, zorst, filter, chip, cams, headwork etc.. might be worth lookin at a throttle body conversion... for the cost..?

Yea i was thinking that, Sounds a good idia to me, Just worried about fuel costs after that...
Any1 any idias on fues costs on a 1.8 zetec with throttle bodies...?
The exhaust dont really catch on anything, seems as if the gasket where the manifold meets the centre section has gone... I'll have a look under it sumtime in the future...

my views on zetec tuning:
If you want big BHP from a zetec its gonna cost a lot:
My first steps would be to get a scorpian or a mongoose cat back system, a K&N panel filter and a 2.0 mondy throttle body.
the car will sound a lot meatyer and will pull a lot better.
If you started with the 105PS engine you might wanna get some 130PS cams and ECU. The car will fly then!
There aint no real point chipping a zetec ECU. It will only remove flat spots rather than give any real increase in power. The drivability will be improved though.
Running a 1800 on throttle bodys should see you around 160 to 170 bhp but probably a low torque figure. Budget for around £2500 for this
Hope this helps
cheers

Yea, cat back system would be a good idia, Think i'll do that, I have no cat at the mo and no lambda sensor... Its Got a K&N 57i on it...
As for 2.0 throttle body, what will this do to a 130ps engine? How hard to fit? whats involved?
Wanted to chip it as it will probz give a slight increase in power and will make the car much smoother...
Cant be doing with paying £2500 for a 40bhp increase, Would like to turbo the car, dont want huge power really, want a car i can drive every day you see, Maybe about 180bhp or more it it will be reliable...
How much am i looking and how much power...?
Cheers for help dudes...

zetec turbo is gonna cost you a fortune mate. Seriously. To get a strong reliable zetec turbo engine is gonna cost you at leask 4k i reckon.
You could go the budget route but reliability is seriously tested.
To be honest if your on a budget and already have the rs1800 engine fit a zorst and a panel filter and maybe get it remapped.
Or just sell it and get a RST!

You could do a proper low compression conversion for less than a grand if you did almost all the work yourself and used 2nd hand parts. That would be with a std ERST T3, Calibra pistons, FRST intercooler, rad, inlet, injectors and ECU.
160odd bhp with the potential for more at a later date. Not the perfect engine but better than a bodged skimmed pistons / spacer plate and a 5th injector setup.

Been reading up on there... Sounds good... if i was to get parts from a Escort turbo...
Manifold, turbo, cooler etc... then bolt it onto mine useing the adaptor plate, would it work?
What pistons could i use rather than getting mine Machined?
What would it cost to get my pistons Machined?
Whats the best turbo to use if i was to buy a new one, and cost?
How much is the zetec adaptor plate?
What management would i run, cost?
Then is there anything i have left out? Or am i talking rubbish now?

Just a note: that article on RS1800.com was written before most people knew anything about ZT conversion's. Another article will be up soon with other ways in which you can also carry this conversion out.
Rich and Tony know their stuff and have an impressive wealth of info there.
