PLEASE HELP!! - HCS To Zetec starting issue.
I hope one of you guys can help me out with a small problem I’ve got. Last week I blew up my 1100 CFI engine in my 1996 mk3.5 Fiesta. I got an engine loom from a 1995 Si along with an engine, all ancillaries and gearbox. After doing this I got my hands on a 1991 1800 Zetec out of an Escort Ghia. All of the Fiesta Si ancillaries and gearbox were swapped onto the 1800 engine, the exhaust gas re-circulation was removed and the assembly was bolted into my 1100 shell.
The engine was wired up using the Si engine loom and plugged to the “2FCD” ecu from the Escort. The engine turns over however there is no spark. The fuel pump runs and pressurises the lines. The multi plug that supplies the coil pack has three wires running to it and according to the Haynes wiring diagram the centre pin is live (which it is) however the two outer earths do not pulse when turning the engine over.
I believe my 1100 which was manufactured in 1996 has the external PATS system as there is a module up the back of the dashboard with lots of wires coming out of it and if I take off the cover in the topside of the glove box they look to be brown. The 1100 engine ran on an ecu coded “FLUX”.
Anybody with any sensible suggestions who has done this conversion before, or knows what they are talking about, please let me know what you think – I’m tearing my hair out!!

I'm fairly certain that 2FCD is an external EDIS ECU, therefore incompatible with the Si loom (think all were internal EDIS) and would certainly explain why you have no spark.
I think the 1.8 internal EDIS ECU for 105ps is marked BLOB, but check it out somewhere first!

Ooh, I do apologise, if BLOB is Mondeo then that'll be for 115ps
Would still work, but really you want a 105ps version (with internal EDIS still) for the correct fueling.

Thanks very much Smo. I got a BLOB ecu from the local scrappers and it burbled into life!! Just need a new exhaust and a radiator hose and shes all running!! Thanks very much cause I would never have worked out what code would have been needed.

Pretty swift to be honest. It was done over a few days, but probably just a total of about eight hours.
The trickiest part was mounting the front driverside engine mount, as it was not an orignal zetec shell then there were no captive nuts in the inner wing. Excursion's website detailed the way we used by using two six inch long m10 bolts vertically, and two m12 bolts two and a half inches long horizontally.
Once everything was assembled the engine went in in about an hour and then it was just a case plugging everything in.
Having got the correct ecu she fired up and has been getting better and better ever since. I'm planning on getting rid of the egr rubbish pretty soon as well. Only thing I would say is that the Si gearbox needs another cog, 4000 rpm at 84 mph is a bit too loud for my liking! That said on the back roads the ratios are great and not a lot of things can live with it. Seriously annoyed a Saab 1.8 turbo driver yesterday

The sump was the same, however the alternator and steering pump bracketry seemed different so we changed that.
