MSN - Don't quite get this...

Postby Smo on Tue Oct 18, 2005 4:54 pm

Had a couple of times recently where MSN won't let me log in, although it was kind enough to provide me with this message:

MSN Messenger :Signing into MSN Messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. 81000314

Anyway, it's happening again at the moment, and usually I'd take that for what it says, i.e, the service is actually unavailable. However, I just tried to log in with two old accounts and both allow me to log in. I go back to my normal one and it still doesn't allow me to log in, coming up with the message quoted above...

The only difference between these accounts is that my old ones were @hotmail.com and this is @msn.com. Anyone else with an @msn.com email address that can or can't get on at the moment?

Searching for the error code above just seems to suggest exactly what it says, that the MSN Messenger service is having probs.

Ok, I should add to this...

Both the times before that I couldn't get on, Grant (MotorcyclesFish) couldn't get on either. Funnily enough, he's just text me to say he can't get on either! That puts the @msn.com email address theory out the window...

What's going on?!?!?!?!

Could be that the server that holds your user account information is having problems. It might be a different one to your other accounts.....

Sounds about right. I thought it was a problem with just my machine on my LAN here, just spent about 20 minutes fiddling with the IP settings and DHCP, connecting via wires, connecting via wireless, blah blah effing blah ad nauseum.

Must be a user server problem, as my brother can get onto msn through an almost identical connection (he's on DHCP on our router though, I need my ports lol).

 Modern technology eh? Might go and watch Dogma instead...

Yeah, we must both be on the same bit of coax that comes down from London to Thanet. Someone in Margate's probably taken the terminator off the end...

Where'd you find that out? Any word on when we can expect it to be fixed?
