Guide to fitting central locking in a 3dr Mk3 Fiesta
Ok, as this has been asked so many times, I thought I would put a guide on here for those who DO use the search facility!
To fit central locking to a 3dr Mk3 Fiesta, you need to acquire the door latch mechanisms from another Fiesta which has/had c/l, eg XR2i, Ghia etc...these can generally be found for about £30. On each side, there will be four wires.
1. White wire
2. Yellow wire
3. Live
4. Earth
The white and yellow wires are the lock and unlock wires. The white wire on the driver's side needs to be connected to the white wire on the passenger's side, and the same needs to be done with the yellow wires on each side. That's that job done.
The earth wire on each side needs taking to a suitable earth. I found there was already an earth bolt underneath the plastic sill on the driver's side. On the passenger's side I used a self-tapper into an existing hole in the sill under the plastic sill cover.
The live wiring is the most complicated, but not difficult. Bring both live wires into the cockpit and connect one to the other. This needs to be done in such a way that one wire is still free to be connected to a suitable live, perhaps using an IDC type connector (Scotchlock), or by soldering. There should now be a free wire which can be connected to the permanent live busbar on the back of the fuse box. Not being a genius at this sort of thing, I used the permanent live from my head unit. An in-line 15A fuse between the c/l live wire and the permanent live wire you're using ought to suffice.
Making sure the passenger door is open, shut the driver's side door and lock it. Hopefully you'll hear the solenoids operating the locks, and all will be groovy!
Hope this helps anyone who isn't sure of what to do.
James.

Wahey, it's been made sticky Glad it's helping ppl out now, and well done Dave for doing your guide too
Unplugged: The c/l motors are bought as a unit which consists of the usual latch mechanism (which you can see on the inside end of the door) with the motor attached to it. So it's just a case of remove the original latch, and screwing in the c/l latch/motor mechanism in through the same holes

Torx?! It's a huge crosspoint. I'd go for manual over electric any day, got more control over what's going on. If you were closer I'd do it for you Just persist with it. Make sure the head fits it perfectly, push in nice and hard and twist like you did last summer!

Re: Guide to fitting central locking in a 3dr Mk3 Fiesta
Hi,
I was trying to install a central locking system but I ran into some concerns... I hope someone can help me please.
Where exactly do you mean by "plastic sill"?
I cannot find a good earth!
And, how do you route the wires?
Should I do it under the carpet?
Last thing. You know, most of the wires need to be connected together.
Now my car is a 5dr, so there are even more wires to be connected... (4 yellow, 4 white, 4 live and then 1 live coming out).
I have a sort of "connector block" thing that would connect multiple wires together. But where should I (safely) hide this block? Passenger side footwell a good idea or not?
Thanks.

The plastic sill is between the bottom of the inside of the door and the carpet. Undo a few of the screws, and you will see another wire which is earthed.
I think the drivers side doesnt have anything earthed under that sill but the whole to earth something too is still there, however on the passenger side under that point of the sill there is a wire earthed there. Check it out
On my 3dr i just ran the wires behind the dash, meeting up with eachother in the centre console, but obv with a five door i would just run the wires down the sill (where the earth point is) and straight up into your rear doors.

Im doing mine right now, all fine except I cant work out how to get the wires from the door into the car. The rubber sleeve has a plug in the end so i cant shove wires down there.. Any ideas? I dont really want to leave wires just hanging between the door and bodywork incase they get trapped or crushed between the two.
Cheers
Cheers
