anyone else having 3rd gear trouble?
hi. anyone else find that 3rd gear is not "straight ahead" like on other cars?
on my fiesta, if you push the gear stick straight up it goes into 5th with a bit of force. to get to 3rd the gear stik has to be moved not even an inch to the left, then it goes in beautifully. i'm used to it now but it still annoys me.
i'm just wondering if anyone has any idea of how to fix it. i haven't done anything like replace the gear knob, haven't touched it. anyone got any ideas?

Here goes from what I remember
Get the front on axle stands and if you look on the back of the gearbox you'll find two bars from the bottom of the gear stick to the input shaft the one with the bolt is the support the other one with the clamp is the one you want. Disconnect the clamp and pull the gear linkage of the input shaft of the gearbox. Put a punch or screwdriver in the hole of the input shaft and you can move it to select the relevent gears (remember it is all reversed you pull the stick back and the shaft goes forward) move the shaft so that forth is selected then get some one in the car to support the gearstick as you feed the clamp back on to the input shaft, ensure that the gearstick is in the right place for forth gear while you hold the input shaft steady. then all you got to do is tighten up the clamp and make sure you can select all the gears from inside the car if you can't then you may need to do some fine adjustment on the shaft till it all feels good.
Hope this is all right and easy reading

from what i quickly read jockster is spot on
im sure u could do it urself there is not really anything that can go wrong
garage shouldnt charge too much simly job shouldnt take a good mechanic more than about 10mins from driving the car into garage to road testing it.
