Guide : Fitting late spec VW side repeaters
Hmm, how many of you nosey people clicked on it then Ah well I wouldn't of put it in general if i didn't want attention would I. Paul asked me about one of my (shock horror) mods, so naturally i was glad to help out.
Have had these repeaters on the side of my car for yonks now , i've always liked them and think they suit the rounded appeal the Mk3 Fiesta has to me. The key thing is they aren't orange. Clever VW/Audi people created a silvered dome to hide the bulbs meaning you can use any standard (small ones) orange bulbs. Bearing in mind they are larger than most sideys out there you want some clearance on your bodykit arches.

This is in no way a guide, its photos and suggestions from a botched job on my shed. Any cutting up of your car should be rust-proofed suitably and I wont take responsibility for anything, ever. So don't come crying to me when you have a big hole in the wing and its all gone pete.
First up the two above photos show how far these babies will stick out if you don't do it right . I.E. cut a VW wing up and remove the dished area that they stamped into the panel. Without this dish they can look a bit 'stuck on' (i think mine do). Not sure how cubby and the gang do it but i imagine a square cut in the wing, the vw cutout spotwelded in from behind and a bit of filler to blend the two together. This would be the best alternative but. . . .
For those of you without the cash for resprays, bodyshop work etc, a dremel will surfice. What your looking at is the nasty great hole in my wings . Note the stupid shape they have to be to get a snug fit. Cutting any more out and you could be screwed so i opted to dremel and file back testing as i went.
Wiring wise it was easy enough to buy the VW wires and rubber clip that clip onto the back of these things. Come in a nice box with a cover too (oooooh). Crimped and taped up the connections, note the bodge and they plug in nice. And i haven't had any condensation either FezzR Below you can see how strange they are on the back, there is only a slight flat lip on the edge.
With the hole cut, filed and prepared you can fit em. I just pushed mine in, and due to the correct cutting the clips hold them nicely. You will note that they will stick out as the clip has a groove intended to sit on the panel edge. I did away with this and just forced them past and they hold up against the inside edge nice and sweet.
Me fitting them and clippin' em in. They can be removed for bulb changing. Note you will need to buy some orange bulbs from halfrauds.
A final arty shot from the cam by accident finished it off
In conclusion, if you don't mind a bit of bodge and can use a dremel (took me 30 mins per side in the end, as i'm ham fisted ) its not too hard. And looks fresh. You probably don't want to cut up your FRST wings tho as there is no going back to standard with a hole that large .
Total cost was about £18 including the bulbs. Bodyshop charges and parts to do it properly i'm thinking about £120, but if i had the money i would.
Any questions?

can get part numbers from work if anyone wants them
the reason they stick out is cos the VW AG wing has a recess for the them (like the mk4 fez )
