wheel rolling radius puzzle?!?!?!?!

Postby danfezSi on Fri Jun 27, 2003 7:29 pm

i no alot of people always have problems with this and get the same old answers, but

after just getting sum 195/45 15R tyres on me alloys i decided to compare them with my xr2i 185/60 13R wheels.

shock shock horror the 15's are bigger!!

why? according to what ive read they're supposed to be the same so why is the radius of the xr2i less????? :-?

@ the time of writing its pissing it down and aint got chance to fit em, but im now worried that they'll still rub me arches [ERRR] theyre bigger (prevoiusly they had 50 profile tyres on, & its been lowered 35mm)

can any1 clarify things 4 me and reasure theyll fit b4 i cry :o :o

cheers

no need to worry, 15s with a 45mm profile tyre are the biggest that will go un an xr2i with no rubbing or no arch and suspension mods. ive had the same on my car and had no problems. :D

The profile isn't measured in millimetres - a 45mm high tyre would be pretty damn low profile! :o AFAIK the profile is given as a percentage of the width of the tyre. So in theory, with a 195/45/15 tyre, the height of the tyre from the rim to the contact surface should be 45% of 195, which is 87.75mm, so the tyre's not 45mm high, closer to 90mm. Not having a go, just setting anyone straight (assuming I'm right?!)

15s always seem to be ok with 45 profile tyres, so if that's what people say, I guess the chances are you'll be fine, as I think people are still running 15s with 45 profiles after lowering considerably more than 35mm, so I wouldn't be too worried. If they DO rub, you'll just have to find out where, and I'm sure people will give you some hints as to the usual rubbing points, if you even need to check :)
