Skirts for 5dr

Postby wywywywy on Sat Jul 26, 2003 5:31 pm

Hi,

Is there any skirts for 5dr models at all? :-? (and look good)
Or, would it be possible if I put XR2i/RS skirts/arches on a 5dr?

Thanks.

RS2000 skirts as on " elm_us " 5dr Si or " Maxsteri " is making XR2i skirts and arches fit his 5dr.

Search either of those :)

i have rs2000 skirts for mine and they fit with no problems. That's the only one which requires no modifying. Xr2i skirts n arches will fit with some modification

Thanks :D

RS2000 seems to look better on a 5dr, and there is little support to attach the resized arches to the rear doors unless the doors are drilled through... I think I'm gonna go for rs2000 :) Unless I can find some very cheap XR2i/RS bodykit in scrapyard.

Thanks a lot.

2i stuff usually goes for around £40 on here. Got mine for £15 at a scrappy tho :oooh: That was for a full set plus 2 spare rear arches :aviator:

Its pretty easy to do, hell i managed it  And theres plenty of guides around :)
Just depends which style takes your fancy. Don’t compromise because of the doors getting in the way, work around them to get what you want your car to look like :)

Thanks MaXsteri.
You know, I've been looking at your pics the whole night.
Very neat job well done!
When are you going to paint them?

Cutting up the arches should be fairly easy even with a Dremel.
But how do you attach them? Do you drill hole from inside then self-tapper screws? If they are just bond on with epoxy my worry is that these will come off one day...

I have read many posts about fitting them on, on this forum. But there doesn't seem to be a definitive way of attaching them...

Attaching them is the only reason I don't go for 2i skirts/arches (yet). But since you said its just 14 quid in scrappie... I might go there on Monday and see what I come with and give it a go! :D And if my skills ain't up to the job I will then resell them here...

Many thanks.

EDIT:
By the way, do I need to cut out the original "smaller arches"?

 One day

DaveMCMkIII ::lol: nutsack is it easy, its a bloody nightmare!!!!! :lol

:P I found using fake_xr2i's methodwas more or less impossible to make it look decent :oooh: Wrecked 3 arches doing that :oooh: But using my method i found it WELL easy and got it looking mint first time :bonkers: Just try to make a better job of the Tigerbond than i did. i need a respray anyway, and my tube had burst, so i didnt care about how it looked and just applied it with fingers, then sanded it down and primered over. Unless you want a respray you might want to be a bit more careful when applying tigerbond

MaXsteri :After THREE failed attempts :oooh: I found THE best way was to forget about the door to start with. Get the arch all self tappered on top and bottom so the door dont open. Then use Tigerbond to stick the arch to the door, using g-clamps and the self tappers to keep it in place.
Then once its dry, remove all the screws and you left with the arch stuck perfectly in place to just the door. Which means, now you can cut the arch very close to the door top and bottom, then screw the top and bottom pieces back in place and you are left with an extreamly tight gap around the door piece and it will rub when you close the door. Then all thats left to do is sand the edges down VERY slightly so that it doesnt rub, leaving you with the best fit ever :)
Then just Tigerbond the top and bottom pieces in place to make them secure, and repeat on the other side :)

I found the best method of cutting was to use a hacksaw and aim for a straight line. All my previous attempts involved using a stanley and trying to follow the line of the door, which was impossible and ended up looking sh!t and leaving massive gaps :(

Also make sure that you leave atleast 1 (preferably 2) weeks between each step  Otherwise it will feel much too much like hard work and progress  I found the weather is a good excuse  Either its too cold or its too hot :bonkers:

Ignore the half hanging out self tappers and the overspill of Tigerbond :oooh: Picture was taken before i was finished playing :) But thats what my gaps of the rear door look like close up, and if you look at the pics at the top of the page you'll see that the gap is hardly noticable :) So to say im happy with the result is a slight understatement  :D

Thanks thats very good info!
So you need to cut off the arches that are originally on the car, before putting the 2i arches on, right?

Thanks.

You mean the Max Poo manual? :-? Cause those arnt 2i arches, and they are also cutting away the arch to fit bigger alloys.

You dont need to do that tho, i didnt :bonkers:

I was thinking about doing the same tbh, looks a lot easier

Looking at the photos I'd say it's just a case of fitting them to the car as you would anyway and then just cut the line like in the pictures, probably completely wrong though

How Tweek has done is does look great but Tweek has also done so much else to his car so it's all worth it, me and you aren't going to have our cars for ages etc so it's not really worth all the work involved

It's all been smoothed into the car matey so it look like it left the factory like that

If you look in his members thread and browse through the pages you'll see how he did it :)

Hello!

The RS skirts arent long enough to fit a 5-door right?

What have you used to extend them, just fiberglass and filler?

Huh? 3dr and 5dr Fiestas are exactly the same length. Only difference you'll notice with the skirts on a 5dr is the gaps where they meet the front arch pieces is offset because the doors are shorter. Haven't been extended in any way!

The arch pieces also include part of the sideskirt so you need all 3 parts on each side.
