It's going to be resprayed in Merc. Grey again - just with bumpers being smoothed over, mk3.5 mirrors colour coded, mk4 wiper colour coded, delocking, door handles colour coded, de-side stripped and general tidying up of annoying dings and scratches - also welding in new plate around filler cap as rust has started to bubble since it's been sitting off road for 3 months (bloody engines blowing up - I dunno! )

I'm also getting the arches cut out and new lips welded in higher and rolled out to fit the Escort Cosworth rims properly (shouldn't be too much of a problem with the smaller coilover springs).

Whilst the engine is out the whole bay's being resprayed and I may even ask to have the engine bay smoothed but not too sure about it!

Will post up pics hopefully after seeing the car tomorrow!

Cheers,

Andy

Dont bother with the engine bay smoothing, I mean theres not gonna be much room anyway to see stuff and no ones gonna really see it. If you do have a bottomless money pile tho...

Yeah - I've been losing sleep over whether to keep the Mk4 wiper arm black or Mercury Grey.

The money is not bottomless unfortunately - almost spent my year's budget on the car.

The reason I have the cash to spend on it is that I was going to buy a Honda Civic Type-R last year (shock horror! :o ) but when test driving one felt it was too tame and that my turbo was more fun!

So I've decided to spend a Honda Civic Type-Rs worth of money on the turbo,

Not much progress to report - although have already had to sort out some new bits (possible leak in the braided turbo oil feed hose so I've had to buy a new one - £30) but I'm hellbent on getting this thing done now.

Got a decent price on the Goodyear Eagle F1s in 215/40 16s, but I'm sworn to secrecy on how I can get them at the price I have :D

Pics of the car being prepped to come - in the meantime here's a pic of the bits I've received recently (Bailey alloy header tank, Bailey EVO twin piston dump valve, T3 oil feed hose, FSE Escort Cos fuel pump)

I know, I know - the chatter was cool at 15psi (people looked from miles around when driving!) but it's not good for the turbo and dump valve should help with sprint times!

Postby andyhardy on Sat Mar 20, 2004 2:38 pm

Care to explain Ian? - it may not help with sprint times but chatter isn't good for the turbo, I know that much and if you're saying it isn't then

Right, car's been steam cleaned around door shuts etc. this morning and is just being prepped up for the spraying during next week (engine is being built up ready for car once done).

Image

Bit of rust on the edge of the bootlid:

Image

I'm hopefully going to get some silver/chrome badges to replace the standard Fiesta RS Turbo badges (same lettering, just chrome) and am putting a smaller Mk3.5 Ford badge where the normal one should be on the bootlid.

Image

Image

Rust has begun to bubble under the filler cap so am having a new plate welded in:

Image

Strut brace is going to be sprayed mercury grey along with Mk3.5 mirrors and door handles being colour coded too (leaving Mk4 rear wiper arm black)

Image

Big rusty Escort Cos discs (pictures a bit dark - sorry!):

Image

I'll post more pics of the car as it's being prepped up for respray.

Cheers,

Andy

I got a phonecall from my mate Simon who is doing the engine change for me (he works at Ray Hackers Autos in Eastbourne) and he's going to do some prices for people on here regarding the job on welding a new plate in around the filler cap and colour match respraying the quarter panel - I'll post that up once he's got an idea.

Anyway - Simon informed me that his van had been stolen the night before, but that luckily he'd taken out all of my new stuff (including engine and turbo :o ) the day before and so that's alright.

Unfortunately all of the old parts for my turbo (which I was about to sell) were boxed up in the back of the car - so I might have lost those now :(

He's just got a phonecall and it's at a local recovery service - two 15 year old lads had nicked his van and were caught 300 yards down the road! Why the hell did they nick his old knackered van, it's an A-reg 1300CVH Escort van in matt blue!

Oh well - we'll see if I can get my old bits back (including standard intercooler, etc.)

Cheers,

Andy

Gettin those lines smoothed out on the boot? So its up to proper Mk3.5 style?

Yeah - it's having those smoothed out to Mk3.5 level.

I've got the decision to make now of whether to keep the bonnet swage line or not?

I'm definitely going for Mk3.5 Ford badges - that'll give it a more modern look but I'm not sure if smoothing over the bonnet swage line above the badge is going a step too far?

Yeah - both doors are being delocked but I'm thinking about keeping the boot lock (in case the alarm goes wrong).

Yep - bumpers are being smoothed with lower swage line staying in to match rest of bodykit.

So you're saying I completely debadge it and remove all Ford badges too?

I'm not sure if that's the way I want to go with it - want people to know what it is (at least give them advance warning of what it's going to go like :D)

People dont exactly look at badges anyway, Id just get a tiny tiny transit turbo diesel badge and put it under the right hand rear cluster.

People know its a ford fiesta.

I would also get rid of the boot lock lol, I mean - If people lived thinking about what could happen all the time it would be a bit boring.

as Ian says, ditch the dump valve for 1/4 mile sprints.
reason i say this is because ive done runs with and without one ;)

Cheers Gav - didn't know that the dump valve would have an effect, but I take your word for it (I've seen enough footage and mag features of your strip runs to believe you know what you're talking about!).

Is there a dump valve blanking plate I can use to cover the cutout on the Samco hose?

Gav's right about removing the DV, it makes the car so much more responsive!

You can buy DV plugs from burton power for about £5

As Gav said before, definately get rid of the dump valve. I have tried it on and off a number of times, and came to the conclusion i had LESS lag without the dv, the DV not only sounded naff but it seemed to slow the take off down.

Sorry i didnt reply sooner, but im in Milton Keynes all this week on a Microsoft Course, not had time for internet access
