My Zetec Turbo Build *Abandoned Project*
My Zetec Turbo Build *Abandoned Project*
Heres a bit of a walkthrough for anyone interested in how my zetec turbo conversion on my fiesta turbo is coming together, progress is a bit slow at the moment waiting on parts and certain things which cannot be completed until the engine is in the car (like the fuel rail fittings etc) but it is coming together slowly
EDIT: Please visit http://www.streetdragster.com for guide
Hope you all like the pics and the progress, going to be a while before its on the road though, alot of custom parts needed and most need the engine to be on its mounts before they can be accurately measured
Thanks
Matt

Cool pics You'll be glad you took those when it's all back together. Good luck with the rest, keep the pics coming What kind of power figures are you hoping for?

Not really after a power figure as such, as long as i can drive it well i'll be happy, want to use it on some trackdays you see. but i expect i will be pushing over 250bhp, only using a T3 turbo so it'll run out of puff much over that i suspect
Thanks
Matt

Should be fun, where abouts will you be using it? I forgot to see if your profile said where you're from I'd love to see one of these Zetec turbo's in action.

Cool, thanks!
Picked up the modified inlet manifold, top hose adaptor and sprayed cam cover last night, getting the water pump tonight and then hopefully attacking it again this weekend, will post up any pics i take. Unfortunately i'm taking the pistons back out to check the piston ring compressed gaps, neither me or my mate whos an engine builder can remember what they were, so we need to remeasure them, bugger.
Thanks
Matt

Nice one Matt! I have missed this uptil now. Looks like a decent engine. Looks like 50-70k miles? Nothing for a Zetec

74k miles Mark, good guess!
I'll try and write a 'what i changed to get it too fit' when its finished, but there is so many little things you need to do, if you undertake a zt build, first double your budget, and then double the amount of time you think the car is off the road!
Thanks
Matt

Nice post Ideally I'd want to do something like this in the future, but as you say it means a lot of £ and a lot of time, of which I don't seem to have at the moment.......

Mate, hats off to you this is one of the most interesting reads I've seen on this forum!
Keep up the good work - fingers crossed that bolt doesn't rub on the aux belt!
Cheers,
Andy

Gutted, just spoken to Dell@Kent Cams (The UK Distrubuter for ARP bolts) and the particular bolt that i need cannot be bought, he can get hold of some that are dimensionally the same, but not identical to the one i sent him, but only in a set of eight at £73.75 +VAT. But the major major killer is that there is at least a 5 week wait until they can be delivered to me. So i may do a bit of work with the inlet and exhaust manifolds, and try and get the turbo closer to the block, but i cannot continue with the engine
however i have picken up my cam cover, now in Diamond White and looks the daddies
Thanks
Matt

Brilliant stuff No need to wonder if you're boring people with this, it's great to see some properly technical stuff on the site instead of people just sending their cars away and....wow...I have a 2 litre engine now! lol
I'm glad the belt/bolt combination worked out in the end, what a find! The R5 GTT oil filter's very shallow isn't it? Handy So gutting about the bolts, and a fair old price for them too Loving the pulleys
Keep it up! Remember if you need any help with anything gimme a shout and I might be able to lend a hand

mate this is absolutely brilliant reading!!
soo many people do builds etc and wont tell you a thing there are some sites out there like jim hearnes who do exactly what you are and tell you everything cockups n all. thats brilliant for those of us who plan to have a go ourselves and i really appreciate it!
hate reading posts where you see a picture of a built up engine rocker cver on and all belted up ready to go in a car with no info on how it got to that state or how some1 else mite follow in their steps. I know that people wanna keep some things secret and i can understand that if its something on a highly developed engine pushing silly bhp but on home builds it just seems daft to hide things.
keep up teh good work
