00' Ford Focus 2.0 Zetec cams - will they fit ?

Postby Bubba Zanetti on Sun May 25, 2008 1:29 pm

My friend has naturally aspirated MK3 Fiesta with 1.8 16V Zetec engine from Mondeo (115 HP version) with few mods - Megasquirt ECU, larger throttle body and some minor headwork ...

After some driving and tuning he would like to increase useful rev range - this engine has very strong midrange and pulls to cca 6k RPM - but he would like more top end power, so that engine can pull strongly all the way to around 7k RPM...

So we looked for another set of cams, and we found some Zetec performance cams, but for Ford Focus Zetec engine - will they fit our engine?

Is there much difference in head design between older Zetec like in Mondeo and new Focus Zetec engines (from year 2000> )?

Cams look similar but I'm worried about cam journal diameter and maybe some other possible issues with installation :-?

This are the engines in which they should fit:

FORD Zetec 2.0 L

1995-1997

2000-2002

DOHC

I'm pretty sure that later "Black-Top" Zetec Cams are not compatible with early Silver-Top heads. The early silver top had a different head design with hydraulic lifters whereas the Black-Top used solid ones, I know that alone doesn't mean the cams physically won't fit but I'm sure I've read it somewhere that they don't.

Ask kent cams or piper cams. I know the part numbers are completely different for the two different sets of cams and I'm sure that if one fitted the other, that Ford would have done it to save costs!
