OK, what is involved? Obv I need new transmission, engine, what about clutch? carb, exhaust, instrument panel & dials? alternator? Some1 enlighten me, along with an estimate of total cost to transplant.
My engines just reach the 120k mark, and I wanna bigger, lower mileage engine.

Next thing would then be to sort out the bodywork - coupla rusty scratches around the roof drip rail things.

cost is peanuts they is 2 a penny in scrapyards

the only thing you will have to change is the physical engine itself, and you will need new jets in your current carb.

cost - hmm including fluids and a new clutch £200

The engines are of the same design so it is a straight swap!
Ford list the same part numbers for the exhaust manifold and exhaust for the 1.1 and 1.3. The carb is the same type weber TLDM but the 1.3 has different float settings and carb jet sizes i think. easy to do. The carb manifold is the same too. Clutch and gearbox will go straight over, although if u got a 4 speed in it like me it might be worth getting that 5 speed box or it could be bye bye to that oh so short 1st gear! a new clutch is always good when swapping engines although they r the same size too 190mm. dash stuff is the same, as is altenator.
Easiest (complete amateur) way to do this is hire an engine crane from a hire shop (£30 for a day) run the car till out of petrol (preferably where u wanna do the transplant! )so that when u take off fuel lines and stuff to carb not much spill of fuel and no hoses to plug, then follow the steps in haynes. think there's 35 of the b@stards but is basically unplugging wires here, taking off mounts, taking off the alt, carb + inlet manifold and taking off the exhaust manifold with exhaust.
Easy!!!

There you go!

He's right - you literally only change the block itself.

Well I got me a 4spd atm
SO I'd only need new clutch, engine and transmission then - maybe carb? excellent. Will keep a look out until feb, when my insurance is up for renewal. Thanks fellas.
