apart from the obvious engine and ecu, is there anything else needed for a 1.1 - 1.6 engine swap? oh and bigger brakes

Try the guides forum or do a search. Been covered loads of times, I'm sure. Plus you don't give any info as to which 1.1 or 1.6 engines you're talking about.

im doing a 1.1 fiesta i to an 1.6 8v xr2i at the moment and this is a basic list of what you should need to go into the 1.1;

engine
gearbox
clutch
wireing loom
ecu
brakes
suspension including, shocks(no springs as i have lowered springs on mine), anti roll bars etc
exhaust system, full system including manifold

i think thats the main stuff, other than that do what properphatboy said and look at the guides mate.
