i've gone 40mm on the front, but i needed uprated shocks to stop them rubbing over bumps etc. it's lowered 60mm at the back and it doesn't catch at all. you'll also get rubbing on the inner arch cover, i'm getting some 10mm spacers though which i hope will help stop this

I'm running 192/45/R15 on a 50mm drop and I get no rubbing most of the time. A dip in the road coming down a hill at speed does make the rear tyres come into contact with arches slighty though, but thats usually the exception. I also get a slight rub when under very heavy breaking while cornering, but you shouldn't be in that situation anyway! (Had to avoid an articulated lorry. Remember, brake, then corner kids!)
One problem though is you can't have fat baxtered in the back though, because then it will rub on every sodding pothole around. I normally only carry myself and a passenger around so its not a problem, but every now and then I have to distribute the weight (fat passengers) around or I get rear wheel rubbage at high speeds! I think I'll impose weight limits for passengers!

haha, wel at least u'll have a excuse not to taxi people about. im thinkin of a 35-40mm drop so hopefully no rubbing. we'll have to see. oh and a question. is it best to just get some lowering springs and then save for a full suspension kit? (i know coilovers are the best to go for but i dont have that sort of money at the moment)
Cheers

Save up and get a kit, or you will compromise your ride and handling. I have a matched 50mm kit, but I have a set of AVO coilovers to go on soon. The springs will be a wasted pruchase in the long run to be honest.
Also, try to source an anti roll bar at the same time. That will bolt onto your kit (But not with just lowering springs, the standard 1.1 shocks do not have the tabs). The holes for the ARB are on your lower arms, but are not threaded. A decent tapping tool will put threads on them, and you can fit in with ease. (Then enjoy the handling, which will be a damn sight better than you have now!)

yeah. a full kit is obviously gonna be better. i had just lowering springs on standard shocks and it didn't handle well at all. then i upgraded to some spax psx shocks, and the ride is excellent. grips the road a hell of a lot better. but if you can't afford a full kit straight away, get springs, then later on get the shcoks to match
