1.1 Air filter question...
Hiya
As ive recently found out.. u cant getta air filter assembly for a 1.1 .. only the K&N Filter to go inside the standard box.
I was thinking of taking the standard assembly off the carb... binning it... then sticking on one of these...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Raid-Carbon-Fibre-MaxFlow-Universal-Cold-Induction-Kit_W0QQitemZ8027711322QQcategoryZ36680QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Only thing im thinking of is if the piping will clear the bonnet... i.e because you'd have to bend it out of the way if you get me?
Also any pipes etc that id need to re-route etc?
Thanx

it does work but there is no point, if anything you will have a power loss, never gonna gain anything from it
phase 2 zetec s, slammed, smoothed, euro'd, ronal turbo's, coilovers, stretched tyres

Surely the more air flow the greater the power ?!
Humm any1 else got any ideas on it? ..
Not realy after power gains... jus the induction noise
But like you said if its gona lose power then its pretty stupid doin it..
Anyone have a 1.1 standard box with the K&N elemant filter in that can throw abit more info for me... like isit worth it n thingz
Cheers!

But you mean do that but still keep the original filter inside... or chuck in a K&N inside?
Cheers

You can either drill your Air Box on the sides and the back like this:
or you can buy a K&N Bolt-on Filter. I think these were originally made to fit on the Orion, but they also fit the Fiesta Mk3 I bought mine second hand off ebay for £26, rather than paying £60+ to buy brand new. It is alot better to buy second hand because you wont gain much, if any power, especially on a 1.1 engine like you and I have. I did have the drilled box on (as u can tell in the pics) but when i put the K&N on i noticed that while changing gears the revs dont drop half as fast and also that the car seemed alot more responsive on acceleration. Also the Drilled Air Box did make a nice sound, but the K&N makes by far the best sound!
The Product Code for this K&N Bolt-on Filter is '56-9042'
This is what my 1.1 engine looks like at the moment, it has the K&N Bolt-on Filter and also has a K&N Breather Filter on the oil filler cap:

Cheers mate! sounds a top mod 2 do thn
So do i just take the standard air box off n stick on the orion K&N.. i.e simple bolt on job?
So you think its best to go for the orion K&N rather then drill the box and stick in just the K&N elemant?
Any other bits youve got for ya 1.1 tht u recomend? ... Nice 2 finaly talk to a 1.1 owner... i felt kinda left out among the Turbo NOS 2.1 litre nuts on ere
Cheers
Is this the one you have? ...

i used to own a 1.1 last july. I changed the exhaust backbox to a peco big bore 4. Made a big sound difference.
It dont matter how many little mods you do to the 1.1 it will still drive like poo . . .
Unless you wanna put twin 40 carburettors on.
Check http://www.burtonpower.com for more info but i warn you now you wont like the price of the twin 40's

To be honest with ya mate with the price of buying and fitting twin 40's.
You could afford a 1.4 si or even a XR2i with the ammount of money you will end up spending on a 1.1.
Remember when increasing engine power you have to improve the brakes cos they wont cope with the increased power and also you will have to improve the clutch due to the increased power going through it.
If you dont consider these points when changing engine aspects you will end up either killing youself or blowing up the gearbox which dont come cheap either.
You have to think these things through - not as simple as buying it and fitting it im affraid.

Yeh my Filter is the same as that one you've seen on ebay. Like said, theres not much you can do to a 1.1's performance, only thing you can really do is make it sound nicer, feel a lil more responsive, and make it look nice!

Well the K&N that I got had already been fitted to a fiesta, and so the owner before had already drilled holes into the base plate for fitting. So mine just bolted straight on no problems, and I've not had any problems from it since it was fitted.
As for the Oil Breather I've been told that it just gets rid of all the oil vapors from the engine and lets it breath at atmoshpheric presure. (Not sure if this is 100% correct but a lot of people have them on so...) Only problem I've found with it is that wen you have your car stationary while it's still running you get a bit of a burning oil smell though the heater, but it's nothin major, but I've seen people have a pipe coming from the oil cap then the filter on the end of the extension pipe to move it somewhere lower down under the bonnet.
Theres also another pipe that comes off your old ford Air Box called a vacuum pipe, which you have to block up using something such as a large bolt, screw etc.
Theres a guide to fitting the K&N that someone has already wrote:

Just the same as the guide said, and you've seen the pic of my engine on the post above im sure it will work fine! If not you've always got the old air box to put on if you notice anything in the cold weather
I hav'nt done any mods to my fiesta at the mo (apart from the filter), but I have a 3" scorpion cat bac exhaust ready to put on and some Si bumpers aswel (just need to get them sprayed!) And I also need to find a decent pair of alloys!!
