My first thoughts too! And the back box :/

Other than that it's coming along nicely! Getting zetec'd any time soon?

I wouldn't drive that a yard with a chopped coil. Seen far too many mishaps after people have done that. Remove all the stickers, put a smaller exhaust pipe on the back and debadge the rear.

And give it a fookin wash!

ive only just put the stickers on, exhaust is staying, may change springs one day but theyre staying for now

chopped springs welded diff = oldskool ratlook, stretched tyres???
http://www.rat-look.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3020

my opinion stretched tyres are stupid and alot more dangerous than chopped springs, and lots of people do the stretched tyre thing, well certainly the way ive chopped mine ive not chopped a standard spring hence having to chop about 3 coils out to get it low, ive chopped half a coil not from the pig tail end, its zip wired in place too just a extra precaution, it sits in at both ends too.

my brother is a mot tester and would pass a slightly chopped spring that sits in place, (how could anyone tell unless i told them anyway theyre painted and sat in place) but he wouldnt entertain a stretched tyre.

It's you car lad so do what ya want, but I was only offering my opinion lad.

Stretched tyres IMHO are dangerous as well. Don't see the need in chopping springs though. But that's just me.

There's actually nothing wrong at all with cutting springs, it's only dangerous if you don't heat treat the spring again afterwards.

Correct heat treatment must be applied again because by cutting you affect the tensile strength of the spring, its overall balance, and create a weak point in the area of the cut. The correct procedure is to heat it up until it's red hot and then douse it in an oil bath. It must be oil because water cools too quickly and will create a more brittle spring.

what do you reckon mine are ?? any idea, its those i showed you earlier on ebay

also i sat them next to a standard rear spring, measured them both and they were 60mm shorter, so i presumed they were what he said on the listing, my fiesta has always sat high compared to others on here

Also Jony, that can't be a 60mm drop? My Si was that height when it had 40mm spax on it a couple of years ago.

the spring length when not fitted has no meaning mate, some are longer than others, the -60mm name is of how much lower the car sits once settled on the spring, not the shortness of the spring compared to standard

mark i come from being on -30mm springs

lik i said i have no doubt i have a -60mm Gmax kit

xr2ilookalike :what size wheels and tyres you using on those photos jon ?

standard mk5 Zetec S mate, 195/50/15 with an offset of ET35

30mm on the front mate, but the shocks were also a bit shorter than the standards :oooh: so at a guess 35 maybe 40mm yeah

be touch doing it to a standard bonnet mate, the vents sit on 3 small lugs that hang under the vent which attach via screws, i can get a pic of where the hole sit..

bare with me

all coil overs i find are well expensive and that includes second hand :(

id have coil overs if i find some

anyway bonnet vents fitted :D to a standard bonnet

vents from ebay
Image
these are the tools needed
Image
Image
marked out a template in cardboard (slightly smaller than the vent)
Image
marked the under side of the bonnet then drilled 4 holes in the corners
Image
put masking tape on the outside of the bonnet
Image
put the template on in place marked by the 4 holes, draw round it
Image
Image
cut it out with the jigsaw
Image
Image
trial fit then mark out areas that need trimming, trim where mounting screws fit too
Image
Image
now for the way to hold them in, i made some brackets
Image
Image
Image
job finished just need painting, but its now snowing
Image
Image
i know they dont fit exactally like rs turbos because they are sat on the bonnet and not recessed but i like them

very good effort, but like you just identified, the vents in oem sit recessed in the bonnet

they look a bit in your face like that imo

Mate just a quick observation as regards to your vents you know the little brackets you made which the vents screw to, cant you just make them in an s shape if you get me so they sit further in. Just make them say 10 mm longer from your straight edge to the hole and make another fold. If you get what I mean you can place them so that they are not raised as much

cheers, i understand what youre saying, but the vents have to sit on the bonnet otherwise the brackets would be useless, the vent and bracket are acting as a clamp on to the bonnet.

i got and fitted a mk4 fiesta rear wiper today, and i got a different gear stick gaitor, a switch blank (cover where the boot pop switch goes) i dont have boot pop, just had a hole there, and i got 2x blue bumper strips.

£3.60 for the lot :) :) :)
