1.3 HCS engine, help!

CVH and Zetec tuning, suspension and braking mods.

Postby Newfezzyfan! on Thu Oct 18, 2001 11:57 am

Hey,
wondering if anyone can help me, got a 1.3 LX made in 1994 with an HCS engine for my first car ! Thing is i want to make it go faster, (i'm still learning whats with cars) but i cant see my engine on any price lists for air filters or anything. So what can i bolt on to get it sounding and going as good as possible?

(i think its a mark 3 but i'm not to sure, told ya i'm learning!)

Cheers, Ian

K&N bolt on air filter for an 86-89 XR2 (trust me it's the right one)
Powerflow for a cat back exhaust (1 big box and 2" bore will be just right)

Fukk my teeth really fukkin hurt now - don't let them get so bad you need a root canal mate

realy easy after a quick phone call to alex and halfods actually labeling the K&n filter up right!!!! - Ta alex again!
All you need is a small torx bit for ur socket set and a philips screw driver!!!

Take of the air box and undo the 4 torx bolts on the carb (one at a time not all together) put the alloy base for the filter over the carb and put the L bracket on the bolt and do the bolt back up. then do next bolt!!! piece of pie

I got a 1.1, HCS engine - would a K&N be worth it? if so, would i get the same, and how much would it be? I may have picked up some knowledge in other areas - but tuning is still new to me

I have a 1.3 HCS too.

I have a K&N filterreplacement (E9090) and a full cat.back Supersprint system, with no maindamper (thus, just a straight pipe...).

Power appr. 70BHP and it realy sounds awesome!

For the exhaust, check http://www.supersprint.com
and look for your local dealer

The K&N filter can be obtained at (almost)every car-shop (you have the partnumber). You also could check the autostyle cataloque(I don't know if there is one available in the UK, though).

Hope this helps. Cheers

I got a bolt on K&N filter, easy as pie to fit, also uprated the jets on the carb when i was doing it =]. Sound is stunning when u first hear it at high revs, the car to me no longer sounds like its struggling (although it probably is), it makes it sound more "beefy" and combined with a good supersprint exhaust the car can make a great tone =]

Wooly you numpty, I fitted my old XR2 K&N onto Fraser's CFi unit!

And they are the same, externally! Ford doing the rip off thing again (so they didn't have to change the design of the airbox I think).

it is true, fits straight on, ,made my lumpy cam more bareable, idles better and has a much better mid range and sound, all in all wikkid, the HCS air flow's are do-doe, not enough good air in, really helps em breathe to have a K&N, my car was running too rich on idle before, and my fuel economy is actually the same or better!
