1.4si Vs 1.6si
Now, a while back i was told by someone (can't remember who) that a 1.4si is a very 'nippy' little car and could sometimes beat a 1.6si off the line!! Im not favouring either but i just wondered what people's views were on this?
I had a race with a 1.6si on the way down to southend and he was belting it but seemed to stay in my wing mirror all the way up to 80mph!! How?! :?:

beating off the line is a very different matter to most other comparisons,
it has a lot to do with the drive and alot to do the weight of the car, although i have to question how much weight diff there maybe between the 2
for example couple of days ago i raced a golf GTI in my 1.1 (he didnt know its a 1.1) and i beat him from the line but not for very long probably to about 40 50mph, but seeing as it was a 50 road i didnt want to brake the law so i stayed at 50 he didnt seem to be too amused

my 1.4 is very slow , and i wud say a 1.6 wud easily beat mine.
although its all to do [ERRR] the driver and how well you get away.....[ERRR] i beat a Saxo VTR off the lights the other day.....which he wasnt amused about

I've been told its something to do with the fact that the 1.4 is an 8v whereas the 1.6 is 16v, 8v always seems to be better acceleration. Also the 1.6 in the Si isn't very good really, its nippy but hasnt got the torque of 1.8 and 2.0 zetecs. I know, I've got one
Unless the golf was seriously buggered i dont think you'd have beaten him in your 1.1 if he was even half trying, no offence but 1.1s stand no chance against Golfs mate

Might have a chance if you were racing in reverse!

ok just read [ERRR] i just wronte 40 in 5 sec maybe not but still i only beat him till about 40, seriosly my little 1.1 can learch from the line and beat quite a few cars from the line but after about 30-40mph i might as well get out an push

i can't even believe this discussion is taking place, the 1.6 si would easily out perform the 1.4 si, it has a better engine, more torque, better bhp, and better 0-60 times (by nearly 2 seconds).

No offence to anyone but the 1.6 wipes the floor with the 1.4 Although i think the 1.6 engines can vary, cos mine is surprisingly quick - over 125mph regularly whereas others are much slower. However, there is a noticeable kickat about 3000rpm when the extra valves appear to kickin.

that was the bit that was true for whatever reason it may have been

that was the bit where he kicked my ass (i wonder y) so i didnt even bother (which is y i he felt like a dick for racing himself)

Havin had both, 1.6.
Si Dave, what you done to yours to get that?
MArk Si, the 1.6 can quite easily get up to the torque levels of the 1.8 though - in the recent RR thing on here the 1.6 si with just an induction kit and zorst (I think) had about 135lb of torque, which if I'm not mistaken is more than the RS1800

Rob, not much really, K&N induction kit, full scorpion exhaust. But it gets serviced and tuned regularly. Mine appears a bit faster than others though as i have driven 2 or 3 others and they have been slower.I have seen 132mph on the speedo whilst racing a mates bmw on our private airfield, he was impressed to say the least

llama @ Phil ! Respect dude !
IMO theres fap all difference in terms of torque between 1.6 and 1.8. I reckon the 2.0 is a different kettle of fish tho - Phils 2.0 feels LOTS quicker and faster than my 1.8.
