1.6 16v vs. 1.8 16v exhaust downpipe...

Postby Smo on Mon Apr 03, 2006 10:11 pm

Was having a browse about on eBay last night and found two ideal pictures of the differences between the 1.6 16v downpipe and the 1.8 16v downpipe.

1.6 16v:

1.8 16v

Ok, so it's pretty obvious what the differences are, but is there any difference in performance gains/losses between the two? Obviously the 1.8 16v still uses a 4 to 1 manifold and looking at the downpipe, it looks as though it starts as a single...

What do people think?

:)

1.8 one is better as it's 4-2-1. flows better than the 4-1 1.6 one. :)

I imagined the 1.8 was better, but from looking at the pic, it doesn't look as though it's a true 4-2-1, which was my reason for wondering...

And unless I'm wrong, the manifolds on all MK3 Zetecs go directly 4-1?

:oooh:

What you cant see in the pic is that there are 4 holes at the top but you can clearly see that the 1.8 one has 2 individual sections coming down into one where as the 1.6 doesn't

Oh righty, I'm getting you :)

Didn't mean to doubt you, just hard to imagine from the pics alone

But I still assume that all the manifolds are the same/pretty much the same?

Yeah there's not really much in it, unless you can prove it on the rollers one way or the other some people will say 4-2-1 is better and some will say 4-1 is better. Your choice.
