1.6 carbs

Postby Brian on Mon Dec 08, 2003 10:33 am

Does anyone know what carb was fitted to the mk2 xr2, because this is supposed to be more powerful than the 1.6S which is supposed to have the Weber 28/32 TLDM carb on it

Hee hee, i have all the topics in this section!!

The carb you're after is the Webber DFT 32/34, which was fitted to A, B, C and early D reg XR2's, and also XR3's.

I got rid of my crappy tdlm in favour of the DFT, and noticed the difference. pulls alot better. Tho i can't quite remember whats different between the XR2 and the 1.6s, hasn't the mk3 got a different cam? i'm sure the s was slower in the books than the XR?

Doesn't matter, either way, slap on the DFT and u should notice a difference. Note you will have to get the inlet manifold too, as the tdlm one is too small. Try to get some bigger jets from Webber too, as that will help more. i keep meaning to get round to ordering some.

but if you're really lucky, u might find a webber DMTR (or those letter in a different order, it escapes me at the moment  ) which is better than the DFT, can't quite remember what they are from, as i think it was an optional extra to have that fitted, and i think its on a couple of non-Fords.

HTH :)

1.6s is exactly the same engine as the xr2 by the way. the mk3 1.6s was made for ford to use up the leftover xr2 engines. aparently its very slightly less powerful, but easily adjustable! :)

Cheers boys, yeah the 28/32 DTML is on the late xr2's and mk3 1.6S's. Maybe it was slower cos of weight?

Aye MK3 is heavier, otherwise it's the same.

I tell you what the engine on the old MK2/MK3 1.6s is bloody brilliant

My old one was at 142,000 miles before my sister crashed it :-?
But that was the original engine. Only servicable parts changed, it was never rebuilt.

Really quality engineering.
