hi,

looking for a new engine for FRST. want 220-230bhp. mostly road use, occassional track day. would you go 1.6 or 1.9?

and who would you get to build it?

i'm local to specialised engines.

not a million miles away from vulcan and grove garage.

ATP did good things with my mates nissan (but not sure if they actually build engines)

reply by PM if you like

probably been asked a thousand times, sorry!

I woudl keep it 1600 after seeing my mates banana shaped rods in his 1900.

SCC Performance have built both my engines in the Escort and my Fiesta. The Escort engine is 1600 is over 2 years old, is driven very hard on the road and on track and proving grounds and puts out a proven 256bhp.

Can't fault my engines or the guys.

Wouldn't use Vulcan after seeing the grief TT had with them on Passion Ford :o

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

i've done a fair bit of lurking on various forums, and you'll always see these posts. one person has an issue with a product/company and it turns in to a war of words with the satisfied users!

i have a mate who's over the moon with his cossie lump from SE and another who had some head work who's chuffed as well.

both said SE really helpful. SE are mentioned in the Haynes "CVHtuning" manual as well. surely that's a recommendation?

same with vulcan, heard good and bad things.

worse than the lottery!

I've got a Vulcan Pinto engine and its superb, although it is a competition spec engine so it should be good.
Had a 1.8 CVH engine done at SE and it burnt oil for at least 3000miles so don't know if they bored incorrectly or what, but eventually went back to a 1.6. Still got the 1.8 block in the garage somewhere, going to get it done by Ferriday one day I think to go in the Fiesta!!
