1.6 zetec- most power????
first of all...... this is a question about the 1.6 zetec engine..... so NO "get a 2l" crap.
just wondering who has had the most power from the 1.6l lump on here or anywhere u know of in n/a route.
with simple mods ive squeezed 98.1 bhp and this is will set up the 2l route easy.... what ahve you got rr proven? oh and it must of cost me a whole £250 to get the extra 9 bhp

Stoned :oh and it must of cost me a whole £250 to get the extra 9 bhp
So about the same as a second hand 2.0L Zetec then!
well yes BUT after a 2l transplant rather than the (restricted due to smaller throttle body etc) output of 135bhp id be lucking at 140 if not more so bloody poo off lol
no more 2l crap

It is having engine inspection and tinkered as neccesary just to make sure it can handle the jolt and then I am hoping for a 50-60 hp increase which will be nice, also getting induction kit so with juice should be making 150ish which will be nice

It's ok saying "none of this 2L crap" but it is the only way... without spending lots of money...
how else can you get 136BHP from 89BHP for 200-250 notes?
Turbo'ing is viable, but the work involved is immense and ££ is a big issue...
NOS is an option, but its very "on-tap" and over loading it wouldnt do it much good on a std engine....
I know you asked about the 1.6 but surely the numbers of people saying it aint worth it counts for something?

i have a 1.6si and i have looked long and hard into the available options for the engine and the only options that i could warrent spending the money on were:-
nitrous (if you need info or links give me a shout) but its temperary power and all the time your on the button its costing you money
A 2litre slammed in there
a 2litre slammed inthere with nitrous
a 2litre on throttle bodies
a 2litre turbo'd
cvh turbo poped in
or spend silly amounts on 1.6 i.e. cams, head work, 4 branch equal length straight through exhaust etc to get not much gain.
jono has gone the blown route and as he says it gets expensive.
its up to you but lets just say this time next year my car will be in the garage with its heart taken out and a new one going in
good luck with what ever you decide
matt

I quite like the idea of nitrous in terms of, you could have pretty good fuel economy when its turned off and have that extra boost of power when you want it (obviously not when you run out ). I used to hate the stuff but im coming round to the idea that it is actually quite good stuff.

Yeah and how expensive is it to re-fill the tanks?!!? People never think about that... it ain't cheap! Get through 10 tanks and you may as well have bought a 2L!!

Price of refills: http://www.nitrous-refills-uk.co.uk/ - Not too bad. Also, think that when your driving a highly tuned motor, the cost of fuel. Im just saying nitrous aint that bad if you want a day to day car that is reliable but with extra power when you want it
Im not sayin the 2.0L conversion is bad as i plan carry out the conversion sometime next year.

the reason i started this topic was 2 discover who had managed 2 squeeze the most power out of the 1.6 lump. NOT is it viable to do it, not how can i squueze more, etc etc
this is one of the problems with this site. ive been a member for as long as i can remember and is great [ERRR] of the community feeling. however when it comes to lexus lights, any engine other than the 2l posts are hijacked and things put forward.
bloody hell leave people each to their own please..... if i wanted 2 develop the 1.6 and blow cash thats my problem..... ALL I WANNA KNOW IS WHO HAS HAD THE MOST OUT OF THE 1.6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
rant over lol

The thing is nobody has really pushed the 1.6Si.
As people keep saying it so much easier and cheaper to get a 2.0 so would any of us gone all out on a 1.6Si?
The answer is nobody knows at a guess I would say you could get 110-120BHP after a small fortune spent.
I have heard of afew on hear pushing around 100bhp.
I will agree with you on the fact that you don't get clear rears, RS/XR bumpers, mk3.5 mirrors and mondy wheels then you can get a slating.

Ive got my old 1.6 si lump in my garage and was thinking of fettling with it to see [ERRR] happens. Im gonna try wacking my old rs1800 cams init maybe get the block decked to raise compression and wack on the t.e inlet i have hanging around along with a 1.8 exhaust manifold and see how it goes. Ive also got a mate who works for merc and he's got an old supercharger off a 2.0 merc so that always another option i was thinking of but then i need diff mangement and custom pipe work so its alot more involved .
a must see lol > http://www.rs1800.clara.net/damos_ass.avi

maybe but im sure i saw a kit car on passionford with a 1.6 n/a lump that revved to 9k and made 220bhp , there was pics and a graph i will see if i can find it. no doubt a hell of alot of work had been done to this engine to make that power.

A bit of a problem with the original question I reckon.....I'm sure I, like quite a few other Si owners, have made some mods, e.g. exhaust etc, but can't be bothered to get it rolling roaded!
This costs a bit and I personally don'tthink its worth doing when you know the output is going to be so close to standard...
...also, how do we know how accurate the readings are? One person may have 98bhp, another 97bhp....but I doubt these are reliable enough to say one is better than the other....if we were quoting power at the wheels then it'd be more interesting

ok... a 1.6Si engine overbored to er.. 2L and the ports widened... overside valves etc... exhaust , filter... should be good for 136.. and cost around 900 quid
The most ive seen is about 110ish, it was one with cams, head work, port work, exhaust filter decat etc etc...
