1.6s engine vs xr2i. power differences etc plz.
as i got a cr@ppy 1.1 mk3 hreg. when come to do engine conversion im not after mega power. but a nice increase.
read somewhere that the 1.6s engine is a straight fwd swap into my curreny 1.1 car rather than the xr2i 8v one.
are all 1.6s engines non coil engines, or is it just certain ones made between certain dates etc, an also was it produced in other cars like the orion or escort etc.
is this correct or are they more or less the same hassel to convert to?.
also what is the power (bhp, torque, 0-60, top speed etc) between the two units.
cheeRS.
Greg.

1.6s engines do use a coil
3 wires is all you need to change when doing this to an HCS
power is late 90s i think
xr2i is efi
this will require entire loom change
u will also need loads of electronic bits new rev counter.
for both conversions you will need a new radiator and exhaust

or get a 1.6CVH (carb) engine from a late escort! (and some 1.6s')
Plugs straight up to ur 1.1 plugs etc as the late ones (like mine was) are run by the same ignition system as the 1.1 is so dont need any wiring! just need the drivers side mount changed if taken from an escort!
think that tyhe 1.6s is 96bhp!! add a bolt on filter and a full (manifault to tail pipe) xr2i exhaust and you may hit 100 bhp!! (if lucky!!)
where as the xr2i is bout 105bhp and the engine will fit straight in but will need the tank, loom and ecu, poss propper metal fuel pipes (diff bore to 1.1's) and a host of other stuff! none of which is too dificult to do, just gotta have time!!

What have u been saying meximoo u sl@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@g!!
XR2i standard out put is 115bhp AFAIK and 1.6S in a mk3 fez came with 90bhp, tho a carb swap to an earlier one will see 96bhp.
The 1.6S swap is easier, but the only extra thing u have to do for a 2i lump is loom change, and change the fuel tank and the clocks, and really isnt that much more hassle. The 1.6s lump is prob more fun, but also less reliable as its a carb, and older technology will always be inferior to fuel injection reliability and economy wise (tho i love carbs ) All depends what u want tho really. Go for EFi i would, but thats just my opinion. Or if u gonna do something where u do have to change the loom etc, then go straight for zetec, cos u'll only wanna upgrade again after a few months!

Much easier to go for a 1.6 kent/xflow engine.
Much cheaper to tune up than an efi too
The efi is a good set up,but the management makes it a lot more expensive to tune up.
