as already said, the best thing to do is start off with a 2L zetec which IIRC is a straight swap but you will need loom, gearbox etc I THINK(?) however, if you DO want to stick with the 1.6, im sure about 120-130hp is achievable but the costs will be through the roof...you would be looking at

fully modified gas flowed, big valve head
high profile cams
high compression bottom end
aftermarket pistons
after market inlet manifold
throttle bodies with engine management and live map
4-2-1 or 4-1 exhaust manifold
bigger throttle body
bigger injectors
maybe even a slightly bored out bottom end

however, if you start with a 2L zetec to start off with, you will have 130odd bhp and tuning can take that to about 180-200hp reliably in N/A form and well into the 400hp league turbocharged

tuning ure si

Postby s2turbo on Mon Jan 10, 2005 7:48 pm

i had a 1.6 si before my frst, there isnt much scope for the 1.6 engine, u said uve already fitted a zorst and filter. nextstep would possibly be a superchip of some kind and maybe a 2ltr throttle body. this is as far as i went with my si. the best thing u can do is make the cornering and braking mental so u can outpace foke in the corners and stop on a 5 pence.

No dont get me wrong, i havent got an Si yet, only a weeny 1.3Si replica

I on the verge of sellin up tho and gettin a 1.6.

So the best option would be to leave it minimal then go for a 2.0??
how much would this cost all topgether roughly??

buy stuff like exhaust system and induction kit, since you can also use them on a 2.0 engine. iv currently got exhaust system and induction kit done and find it to be quick enough but what i really want is more torque in the 1500rpm to 2500rpm band since that is where i do all my driving, cruising along etc. i don't want or need to shell out loads of cash on a 2.0 ltr to get the extra torque or power since my engine is working fine i don't want to abandon it. i seen companys selling superchips or modchips of different brands for 150quid delivered but i not sure its for me. i think chip will only increase power and torque at high end of rev range. hope someone can clarify this for me.

you're not wrong. the chip will boost fuel at 4000rpm +. there wont be a noticeable hike in torque lower down in the rev range. if you want torque like that the 2L will be perfect, otherwise. suffer it. :D
