1.8 zetec and loosing egr (from mondy)
Hi
I have a 1.8 zetec engine from a mondeo to drop into a mk 4 escort.
I know it may have been easier to get an engine from a escort but this was the right price . I have 90% of the parts from a 1.6 zetec escort snapped cambelt so that should help, but i'm looking to dump the egr is this straightforward or will it upset the engine management. Manifold wise does anyone do an aftermarket exhaust manifold in mild steel dont want anything as expensive as stainless! Otherwise ill just blank the egr off on the original manifold for now!

The car will run fine without the EGR as mine does!
Once you have disconnected it you can buy the plugs from Ford which screw straight into the manifold and block the holes up, they are less than a pound each!
Let me know if you want the Finis number for them!
Hope this helps!

is it the Pulse aire unit that preheats the cat?
Thin metal tubes from manifold to the exhaust housing?
Or is it something completly different?

very similar
tbh depends what you want from the engine
if your trying to get some ponies, then get rid of it, as with the egr you can get blanking plugs from ford

Phil Si :would it sacrifice torque though?
The 1.6 has too little as it is!
dont think it will have any effect on torque at all,
the one thing to make sure you do especially with the egr is clean the inlet, after youve capped it all off
