1.8T VW/Audi Pistons in 1.8 Zetec?

Postby Hartza on Sat Jun 04, 2005 11:34 am

Anyone used this conversion? I remember one german guy who has made 1.8 Zetec turbo using VW 1.8T pistons. Engine is with throttle bodies and lot of blig! But I can´t find the homepages or any other info about this conversion...

1.8T uses an 81mm bore, Zetec is 84.8mm I think :-?

1.8 Zetec is 80.6mm STD, 1.8T VW pistons comp height is litlle under 33mm- bowl on piston. Pin is 20mm compared to Zetec´s 13/16" (20.56mm?), so it needs a bit work.

So it is possible with a litle pin modivication fit that piston in zetec 1.8.
How much power can handle 1.8T pistons.

I know the car u mean. Its actually a 1960cc zetec with Audi 20V turbo pistons running 8:5:1 compression, 45mm throtle bodies and an rs turbo t3. 250 BHP apparetnly, but it required alot of work.

Sorry, I was thinking 2.0 block for some reason  The VAG pistons are deadling wtih 150bhp or so in the Golfs etc, so I suppose they should be good for 250bhp or something :-? *purely speculation*

do you mean dealing with 350 in modified golfs or 150-225 in various VAG standard cars

if you get the right pistons (there are a few variation in 1.8 20vt pistons) theyre good for 350-400 standard

Damn, idea backfired... Conrods are "triangle" ( / \ )shaped at the piston end, so Zetec rods won´t fit. I had a lead about using Audi S2 pistons and 10V conrods, but it seems too complicated, needs lof of work to fit.

I think I´ll use proper forged pistons desinged for Zetec, it will cost bit more, but life isn´t cheap!

by the time you have paid to make the wrong pistons fit and work it will probably cost more than getting descent forged ones.
