i recently brought a Fiesta Xr2i (H) reg. its done 105,000 miles, the engine is in good nick looking at it. i gave it a bit of a ragging and something broke, it was a lifter apparently, can anyone advise things that i can do to my engine that will make it stronger and be able to handle a ragging, or does anyone know of things that could be worn and may need new bits

*cheers Paul*

That sort of mileage its probably due for a complete rebuild, most 2i`s were never look after properly and most missed services which kill the old cvh`s.
i can see what your saying, i have full service history and it has been serviced on average about every 10,000 miles, i dont think that it has been that abused by previous owners

They should be serviced every 6000 miles, for them to last oil changes need to be done every 3000 miles. I would probably rebuild it, to increase its strenghth you need to look at balancing, uprated con-rod bolts, uprated head gasket. But if the rest of the engine is worn(camshaft, bearings, oil/water pump, rings) your gonna be wasting your money.
