130 hp Fiesta 1.8

Postby abbat on Thu May 04, 2006 4:59 pm

Hello everyone,

I have one stupid question.

Today was bought cams from 2.0 Mondeo.
Car was much faster on 1,2,3 gear than it is slower on 4, 5 (speed is aprox. 160 km/h)

And top speed is steel 180 km/h.

Can it be because of the standart ECU? I need to change an ECU from 2.0 Mondeo?

And is 1.8 cams from Mondeo are similar to 1.8 cams on Fiesta?

Thank you.
Best Regards.

The cams depend on the engine and not the car. Im not sure if they used the 130ps engines in the mondeo so i couldnt tell you if they are the same, however the 130ps cams are the ones to have (xr3i escort/rs1800 fiesta)

Also if you have changed the camshafts in your engine and it has changed the performance then it is only due to that fact that they are different profile cams, changing your ecu to a 2.0litre one will make no difference except make ur 1.8 run worse!

Hi Harris,

I just forgot to tell that I have 105 hp 1.8 Fiesta.

And I was read a lot that 130 hp 1.8 Fiesta have the same cams as 2.0 mondeo, also it have the same ECU and throttle bodies.

So if I swap all this part to my 105 hp Fiesta from 2.0 Mondeo I can easyle make it 130 hp.

That why I am asking about the ECU.

You think that it will not give me anything?

So I think I just must to try ECU from Mondeo 2.0, because without it with standart ECu I have something very funny :

1 gear goes up to 5500 max (not 6500 as usual) , but RPM grow up very very fast

2 gear goes up to 6000

3 up to 6500

4 gear up to 6500 but after 160 km/h veeeeery slow (with 105 ps it was much faster on this speed)

and on 5 gear I have 4500 rpm @ 180 km/h..and then its ending RPM doesnt grew up..But I feel potencial in engine :)

So I will setup ECU from 2.0 Mondeo and let you now...

I think the problem is in ECU...

But anyway it goes much faster now till 150 km/h ,with this 2.0 cams.

Hello there,

I own an RS1800,
The difference between the XR2i 16v and the RS1800 is the 2.0 zetec (mondeo) throttle bodies and a re-mapped ECU.
The uprated cams are NOT the same ones as a mondeo,

But i would have thought a mondeo cam still would have made it more powerful?

and inlet manifold, they are different between the 130 and 105 1.8's, the 130 has a larger internal bore

Don’t under estimate the CRX. My rs1800 runs sweet and smooth yet i still struggle to hold my mate in his crx. His is still pulling at 135 mph :o
All it has is zorst and induction as far as i no :oooh:
