130ps cams

Postby stuosb on Mon May 07, 2007 10:54 pm

Are the 130ps cams fitted to the rs1800 exactly the same cams from a 2.0 mondeo or is there a slight difference between them. Would the 2.0 cams fit into my 105ps xr2i ok? thanks.

Yes they are different. They will fit and will give a similar increase in power to the rs1800 ones.

Not to sure how they are different but im sure someone else can shed some light.

Those that can, do; and those that can't, talk about it.

Get yourself a set of Fast road cams from the likes of Piper as these do give a nice improvement to the performance. From experience cars converted to 130PS spec make even less power than the real RS1800's and they never make the 128bhp they are sposed to (typically about 120bhp)

Thanks for the helpful replies.

I will consider what to do, because i can get the 2.0 cams for about £50 or less, and the kent or piper ones are around £400, would it really be worth the extra money?

Unless anyone has second hand piper or kent cams they want to sell?

They do what it says on the tin. Using second hand cams in an engine isn't the best thing to do either.

I know in the past I've only sold cams complete in the head. If somebody has only wanted the head I've sent the cam(s) as well as I'd only skip them anyway.

I'm vaguely remembering from experience here(!) but I'm sure the Mondy 2.0 silver-top cams are the same as the RS1800 in duration on the INLET but have a slightly longer duration on the EXHAUST. Both inlet and exhaust have about 1mm more lift than the RS1800 ones.

As Oranoco quite correctly states, you won't see much over 120bhp by installing a set of these cams, especially if theyre from a 567,000miles Mondeo taxi!

The 120bhp that you state is that just with 2.0 cams fitted? What if i fit 2.0 MAF sensor, throttle body and ECU, will that still be about 120bhp?

What would be the next step to get between 130 and 140bhp?
