1400i CVH Tuning...

Postby bigrichybyrne on Thu Nov 11, 2004 2:44 am

a few questions...

1) anyone know what sorta power the 1400 injection CVH engines put out standard?

2) im gonna put a 4 branch manifold on it, and a decat... will the gains be noticable?

3) ive heard of these engines getting "chipped", is there any truth behind this?

4) what sort of power can i theoretically get from the 1.4, and indeed, what are the best ways to go about achieving it?!

Cheers Lads (and Lasses)

I've got a 1.4 Si de-cat for sale if your interested mate...pm me.

As for tuning i'd really consider other engines over spending hundreds on it. I've got a 1.4si with cat back exhaust, pipercross induction kit and 1.6si throttle body. All improved it but i think its a waste of money to start messing with cams and chips on it. doubt you'll ever see much over 90bhp out of it at a push but saying that mines never been on a rolling road. hopes thats been of help to you

the 1.4 litre cvh from escort pushes out 75bhp as standard.
For tuning it, hmm like most people say youd propably be better off with engine transplant but if you want to stick with it I recommend the first thing you do is purchase the CVH engine rebuilding & Tuning manual from haynes, its ment for 1.6cvh but pretty much same ideas apply for the 1.4cvh. Also you can try places like burtonpower and specialisedengines for performance bits and advice on how to get the most from your cvh lump.

The 1400 isn't the best of the CVH engines as its a long stroke engine with a small bore, the 1300 is better as is a short stroke engine with a bigger bore ( same bore as the 1600 ) thus making it a rev happy engine.

I woulden`t spent a penny tuning that engine. Maybe a sport filter and a performance exhaust system to get a sporty sound, but there is realy no power to get from that engine, so if your stuck with the engine you could use your money on the loock`s rather then the engine. Maybe some rims or even a body kit if you fancy that.
