Will 16"s go on my frst without any hassle?? a M8 told me I could get 17"s on without coilovers, I have been told by alot of people this is bollox, dont know who 2 beleive because he said he has done it on a few MK3's he siad it may need a bit of tweaking! I dont fancy buying new 17"s to have the rubber cained & for him to say it needs tweaking a littlemore, expensive way of finding out!! Also some people say 16"s with 195/40 will go without probs other people say its tight suppose its down 2 how much its lowered & what susspension is used?? Is it really worth me going for 15"'s may aswell keep my RS1800 & get some new tyres!!!

Dunno if this will help or not m8 but ive currently got 16s on my SI without any hassle. The only problems i get are when i have a full car and go over neasty bumps you hear the back come down and scrape the wheel a bit. Thats all. Im cutting the arches back next week. Just using a hacksaw and some pliers and tools.
Dont drink and drive...You might spill it!

17" are a ball ache to fit as detailed on this site, arch cutting, suspension setups, spacers etc etc.
16" are a happy medium but still require some mods, you will have to space the back wheel out by either drum spacers or wheel spacers, you may also need to trim the arches slightly if your car is lowered.
Go for 40 profiles with 16" and try to get a tyre that has a rounded profile on the tyre wall as it will help clearence (P5000 Drago`s are ace for this)
To be honest its a matter of trial and error as all cars differ, some will require more work than others.....like mine

Yer 15", just sold them for some 16"
Stealths needed spacing 6mm on the rear due to them being 50 profile tyres - catching on the suspension cup.
The fronts catch when on full lock, apart from that they are easy to fit straight on jobbie
The new 16" are a bit harder, 45 profile tyres catch on the suspension cup again, this time i have to space out the rear drum setup 13mm! When i`ve done that i`ll tell you if i had to shave the arches

Nice 1 Doc, So 15" with 195/50/15 will fit but need spacers?? & 16" will with bigger spacers?? Do U have coilovers??
The arch cutting isnt really a problem, its the suspension side thats bothering me, im getting a full re-spray & they said I can get 17"s on without coilovers, I really want to know if this is possible??, I have printed the 17" fitting guide off of here but cant remember it said coilovers were defo required.
Cheers!!

at the moment my wheels are standard size with big crappy tyres (13inch bk racing 5 spoke split rims things that came with car) and standard suspension setup. im going to buy some 35mm lowering springs soon and eventually fit some 16 inch 5 spoke mondeo wheels with 40 tyres. im going to buy wheels spacers for all the wheels and have the arches trimmed after, but what size wheel spacers should i get?

actually i think i`ll lower it 40mm on 16s on standard shocks with wheels spacers. what size wheel spacers are available? how much would clear the rear cups? mondeo 16s are going on

i see above someone used 5mm spacers. now that doesnt seem a lot to me? surely just spacing the wheels 5mm will not clear the rear suspension cups?
