17's rubbing on coilovers

Postby moulder on Thu Oct 02, 2003 12:14 pm

I have fitted my Avo coilovers to my 2i and have put the 17's on. However on the two front wheels the inside of the rim is rubbing on the side of the coilover strut on the bracket which holds the ARB link arm. Has anybody else come across this problem?

I purchased the wheels second hand which are the Ace rims similar to Gadgets wheels on his gorgeous fez. They are from an Escort Rst (S2) and are 7 inches wide.

On my H&R coilovers you need 5mm spacers on every wheel mate.

My back wheels will catch the spring platform if it is inline with the inside edge of the wheel so I just rised the car a little. Only the fronts are aproblem. I do not know the offset, but I assumed all fords were the same?

i think most fords from that era all have the same offset, you'll just have to try a small spacer untill it clears, mine only have minimal clearance around the spring platform.

Went home from uni this weekend and found the wheels are a 35mm offset. Im gonna put 3mm spacers on the front and that should sort it. :D
