170bhp out of XR2 CVH?

You won't see this power without major mods!
Do the usual like zorst, 4 branch manifold, stage 2/3 head from someone like Specialist Engines in Essex, kent/piper cam, twin 40/45 carbs and a few other bits i.e. lighten the flywheel and anything else that can be lightened to get about 130-140bhp (this is what mines running at, or will when I eventualy fit the twin 40's). You could then lighten and balance the bottom end for a few more bhp. Which is about as good as it gets unless you want to go for a 1800/2000 zetec bottom end? Then there's always nitrous oxide but I don't think you'll get away with that on a race track.
If anyone else knows anybetter I would like to know myself as I wouldn't mind that sort of power from mine!!!

could bore the cvh out to 1.9, combine that with the mods you stated above u get some big power hikes.

that's alot of power for a CVH!
I was running a Pipercross filter, zorst, Kent Cam and twin 40's and got about 122BHP. Didn't have any head work done but that could see you good for a few more ponies.
Can't see that a cam alone will give you 50 brake.

Dom,
You need to speak to someone like Dave at Puma Racing. Check out their website at http://www.pumaracing.co.uk/
They have built XR2 engines for stock hatch and hot hatch championships and are CVH specialists.
They'll get you as close to 170bhp as you'll ever get!!

Can sum1 tell me if what I would do is right?
I'd go for twin 45s if poss, else an uprated carb (depending on your rules); a 4-2-1 mild steel 2.5" or 2.25" bore manifold; a 2.5" bore mild or 7000 grade stainless steel exhaust; invest in a stage 3 or better head from a recognised tuners which has enlarged valves, ports, and is nice and clean inside the coolant passages to assist water cooling around the top of the head; strengthen the bottom end and increase the compression ratio to 10.5:1 (max for Super Unleaded) or take it to 11:1 and run 100 octane or Super with an octane booster if class rules allow you to; finally, use a mappable ignition system and fit a race spec cam. I gather that your idle will be somwhere around 2,000rpm after this...
and so on...

Project ST2000, That sounds pretty much what I was thinking of , but my guess would be that all that work would 'only' get about 150bhp.
From what i've gathered so far, most of the work needed is in the bottom end with forged pistons etc so that I can rev it to about 8000rpm to get the most of the gas flowed head. However i'm told that with forged pistons I would need ceramic bore liners to stop the block from wearing - is this true?

Whats the ultimate CVH
Approx 175BHP but you'll need an all steel bottom end, plenty of headwork with whopping valves, CVH28 cam, twin 48 DCOE carbs or a unichip conversion for the MkIII
