Re: 1986 Capri 2.0 Laser project, body work
I was going to comment about the plating up of the hole, and also the red oxide over rust which will probably get painted over but I couldn't be arsed lol.
Why don't you just get a new wing? It would have probably been the easiest thing to do from the start.

Re: 1986 Capri 2.0 Laser project, body work
yep well cba works for me...
because new patterns are over £130, used wings cut off a car aint gonna be the best, and the effort of blending the front panel into the wing, skinny bumpers will show up bad joining lines
also the cost of painting it, im looking at £230 before its even fitted...
like many, ill stick to the plate and filler
now i dont care if thats a good enough explanation for you, its not your car, its not actually mine either, so like it or shut up

Re: 1986 Capri 2.0 Laser project, body work
theres always going to be difference in opinion when it comes to projects and how there done, but its going a bit off that now and becoming personal, lets not scoop to that again guys.
i personally, have said to jony how i would of done the wing, but thats not to say someone else would of done it that way also, so i personally say, good on ya for giving it a go jony, no matter how you do it, but a little advice could save you problems/hassle later.
as the plate in the wing has been bought up, i would advise redoing it as i see big potental for problems there later, if you feel how you do it is going to be ok, then go with it mate.
everything is a learning curve at the end of the day, its just trying to avoid finding out the hard way that is important

Re: 1986 Capri 2.0 Laser project, body work
You wanna try your hand wet sanding when the wing is dry.
Then buff it up with a machine polisher. Will come up a thousand times better than you think, whatever finish you end up with just painting and laquering!!!

Re: 1986 Capri 2.0 Laser project, body work
Had a great day out at the NEC in Birmingham sunday, sought out the tech guys at the burton power stand, asked for advice on what i need etc for the twin DHLA's we have
today me and the old man ordered what we need to get the Dellorto's fitted to the capri, the following week we will be buying a Sytec twin cable linkage kit for twin dellorto's, so watch this space
meanwhile heres a pic of me with the wheeler dealers
also had a charity ride in this Lancia, was very fun, handled awesome and sounded even better, i do have videos but the best is over 800mb

Re: 1986 Capri 2.0 Laser project, body work
wing and scuttle have been welded, just had a skimming of fiberfiller and we picked up 1l of cellulose diamond white for the new spray gun we bought at the NEC
we also bought this shiz
the bottom of the doors and wing were masked up and primered, highlighting obvious areas that need a light skim of filler due to the grinding to remove surface rust, which will be happening today
any one got advice on using a gravity fed sprayer?
can see this needing a few attempts to get right

get anit bloom thinners if you using cellulose, never used it my self, but people have always told me to if painting when cold, and tbh, i dont really use celloulose.
as for the spray gun, set it up against a bit of paper before going for it on the car, and use it like a normal suction gun, your get the hang on it easy enough

As Jay said....What i did is go to a DIY shop and get some cheap wallpaper lining paper.
Tape it to a wall horizontally as long lengthways as you can, and practice on that....
This gives an ideal test area to get the flows and spray fans just how you want them.

No, ed has been inventing crazy contraptions for tv and film for 20ish years, he is a successful businessman/mechanic in his own right, and I can imagine that he does wheeler dealers more for fun than the money (but still does alright out of it)

i forgot to say jony, wipe the gun down with thinners, and run some thinners through it to clean it out of anything that might be in there, like shipping grease/oil, polish if the guns been buffed etc

quick pic of the twin 40's fitted, not running yet though, coughs and sputters but not fired, jets are likely way out
meanwhile these ruined weedy things
are being swapped for these
this is yet to get fitted, its an adjustable thermostat for switching on the radiator fan, not sure on how to fit the prong without having a leak
heres a few pics of the polyfiller thats been applied, this is the base, obviously another skim over the top to be smooth and flush

I agree with getting a new wing. Regardless of what your Dad wants. Surely you could purchase one anyway, then prompting him to fit it!
