1985 Capri 2.0 Laser
Re: 1986 Capri 2.0 Laser project, MOT prep: Sportex Exhaust
my little set up to keep me smiling
more things being painted satin
building up the layers on the ding
also filled the tiny hole on the top of the wing, near the headlamps
began wetting the valance back

Re: 1986 Capri 2.0 Laser project, MOT prep: Sportex Exhaust
thought id post a pic of my brothers new car
2.0 TFSI
and back to the capri, top of the wing getting its layers on, side needs more filler AOT of wetting down and painting too
front valance is getting rubbed, its now in its first coat of paint, but the lower valance needs loads of work still
looong way to go with this yet
cant believe im doing it with cans!
top of wing needs 1200 wetting then final coat, but ill wait until the side is closer, no sense in risking the top

Re: 1986 Capri 2.0 Laser project, MOT prep: Sportex Exhaust
thats prob down to temp as well, if the garage is cold as well as the panel, even taking it slow can cause runs or blooming, so keep the door shut and get some heat in there mate, even if you heated the wing up with a hot air gun before painting it will help.
do what ive done, get some halogen heaters, i got 4 set up around clarks car, and with all 4 of them on, it will warm the room clarks car is in, and the joining room, to the point within a couple of hours its 7 degrees warmer, dont sound much, but considering the hight of the roof in my workshop its not bad going, even if i do have it sheeted off just above the car, but heat goes through it, but i reckon there be just the job for your garage.
oh, and with the added bonus, cos they are halogen heaters, they designed to heat what there aimed at rather than the air, so it warms the car up pretty quick.
4 of them with post from ebay, £35.....

Re: 1986 Capri 2.0 Laser project, MOT prep: Sportex Exhaust
they can be a bit juicy, how much im not gunna know as i dont get the elecy bill for the workshop, that goes to my aunt and uncle, im sure if its a fair bit there let me know.
i wouldnt say there crap though, i was 50/50 on them, but needed a heat sorce that didnt blow air around, as i wanna keep any dust to a min when i spray clarks car, and my thinking was, its instant heat, will warm the panels, and the surrounding air a little, turn off, paint, leave it untill the extractor has taken most/all of the over spray out the room and then bang them back on, and they will do that job nicely.
i got 1200watt ones though,

care to explain big man?
again, what you mean tiller?
ive not got enough paint in the can to do any more yet, just enough to use as a base coat on the front valance, and ive not been back down there doing anything, so yea only the top of the front of the wing is fillered and painted atm
i hope you dont honestly think thats all im doing

Re: 1986 Capri 2.0 Laser project, MOT prep: Sportex Exhaust
From the pics i can see of the wing painted it looks like there is still some filler to flat down prep and prime...? So i am bit confused why you have applied top coat when there is still alot of prep to do on the pannel?
Just seems to be a waste of paint imo....

read what is written, your causing a scene because you havent, i said the only area thats remotely received a top coat is the VERY top of the wing, the flat piece adjacent to the bonnet, as that only needed a light skim of filler
hence why its the focus of the last photos

In all honesty, given the amount of filler and prep going into that wing, would it not be more cost effective to find a pattern wing ?

Jong. There was a wheeler dealers episode of a Capri. Give it a watch for some inspiration.
