1992 Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration
As alot of you may know i have a diamond white Fiesta RS Turbo and it is perfectly fine...don't worry haha!
Anyways, i swallowed my pride and did the one thing you should never do...let your girlfriend drive your car, and she instantly fell in love with my Fiesta RST! So deal is Christmas is coming up and was thinking of things to buy...and this randomly popped up locally! i took the plunge (even though in verbal conversation, i was told how bad this wee car would be) and i viewed it. It is really back and tbh its a breaker. But i thought with it being at really good breaking money and it would be a shame to strike another fiesta rs turbo off the register, i decided to price up panels and order them. So i handed over a grand total of £280 and i was friskly on my way
Plans: cut every bit of rot out of the car and replace with new metal and new panels. It needs rear chassis leg attention, few small patches on the floor itself, 2 x full sills (one has alot of rot...the other actually isnt as bad as i thought), 2 x door skins (1 has a ripple, the other has a small bit of rot), a front panel, a back panel, 2 x front wings, drivers 1/4 and passenger 1/4 (as most know you they can't be got...so a mk3.5 1/4 with the mk3 fuel cap section set in) and im in desperat need of a bootlid (can't get one so i might have to get a mk3.5 bootlid and get the grooves cut out of my boot and set them in)
also my mrs always said if she was to get an RS Turbo, she would want power steering (like her mk5 1.25 zetec...so im gonna put the battery in the boot, get the battery tray cut out and make up a bracket to hold an electric Citroen Saxo PAS pump (i have 2 spare ones) and get a mk3.5 fiesta PAS rack and get pipes made up. Then im gonna stick the engine and T3 etc from my white fiesta into it (as i know its fine, my fiesta is getting a 2.1 zvh and also there seems to be a misfire in this black one) and i will stick in the radiator and intercooler i have sitting, as i knew they where fine before i removed it from my white car in favour of Airtec stuff. Also i have recently installed coilovers into my white fiesta, so this black car will get the lowering suspension that was in it and it will also get the MK5 RS2000 alloys i have sitting - only i will get them mirror polished!!
So all in all this wee car is gonna get saved, it will be a real nice wee car for my mrs and also i think she will appreciate a Christmas pressie like this!
anyways here is the pictures of me picking it up yesterday and then stripping it this afternoon and showing the extent of the rot around it!
enjoy:

Im going for a mk3.5 1/4 panel as its a full 1/4...then cutting out the fuel surround and then piecing in the mk3 fuel hole!! A mk3 full 1/4 cannot be got, but a mk3.5 can be got!!!

Re: 1992 Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration
not at all, i know the mk3 panel cant be got, but you can still get a pattern one, although there getting hard to get, but its not un heard off, ebay is norm a good place to get them.
Maxwell, im well aware that you can not buy the mk3 panel anymore, and you havent been able to to some years now, but i was a little confussed about why you were doing it that way, as i was assuming you were going to get a genuine ford 3.5 panel (which is stupid money), but i guess your getting a pattern one which is cheaper, in which case it makes sense, but as i was unsure i said what i did, although i should of expanded on the comment to make it clearer, blond moment .
i would of said about looking down the scrappy, its rare, but you do find mk3's in the scrappy with mint quarters, ive seen a couple, even cut a section out one once for my own car, but as you cant get a mk3 boot lid, then it shows you cant get a good mk3 panel, so didnt bother saying about it in last post.
also, as your going to adding a filler panel, please dont get them cheap magnum panel ones, there complete crap! if you cant find a gen ford mk3 filler repair panel, then find a mk3 4 door genuine rear quarter and cut the bit out you need, the filler neck and the surround will fit a lot better than the cheap ones, i got a cheap one once and its sat in the garden somewhere where it landed, and thats the best place for it, that was a magnum panel
keep checking ebay, it throws up mk3 panels now and then genuine and pattern, i dunno how soon you will need it, but if you got the time to wait and watch then you might find one, i located a gen ford mk3 full quarter on there for good money a while back for £60

Re: 1992 Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration
that could be that no one on here has any nor ar willing to go get them to send (if they can get them)
i would offer, but im on the isle of wight, so i cant just go get any as theres no body panel places over here, they order them from a place called solent car panels in southampton, might be worth giving them a bell if you feel it might help?

Re: 1992 Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration
you might be better off finding a nice little 1.1 or something on ebay or the likes and driving it home to cut up you wont have the holes for the bodykit but thats easily sorted. Plus the majority of base models i see are in much better condition than cars of our kind lol. Its a bit drastic but what can you do If theres no panels out there at least you will know they will fit. GOOD LUCK FELLA

Re: 1992 Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration
Now thats taking a bull by the horns
Have you tried any of these? Been a while since i rummaged but maybe worth a punt..

At worst its a re-shell,,shame but better to save as many of its rare parts than worry to much about authenticity,,They are ni on the same anyway...Mr JayRS will confirm the exact details/differences

Re: 1992 Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration
Small update:
I stuck the car up for breaking as it was impossible to get bits to repair the car!! Upon the advert i had a friend link me to a gumtree advert, and today i went to a viewing. I managed to leave a deposit on a shell Its a white base mk3.5, but its really really clean. Sills are superb and arches are actually brilliant too. Front wings are good, but one is a replacement...and was badly put on something my bodyman can sort for me! Im also gonna get a mk3 fuel hole and get it pieced into the mk3.5 1/4!! As its white im in debate if i should leave it white or should i shell the car black!! Either way im happy to get saving another fiesta rst and my mrs will get her xmas pressie!!
