2.0 cams, are they higher lift??

Postby XR2i dude on Wed Feb 06, 2008 5:25 pm

hey guys.. i got a bit confused when doing my lil transfer of parts thinking i was doing a mondeo 136ps conversion... when it turns out its so damn easier (on the ecu) to just do the rs1800 conversion....

so i took everything off a 2.0 mondy..... of the 136ps variety..... maf, throttle body, cams, coil pack, and ecu (desk)

now ive since given up on the mondy one as ive sold the desk and accumulated a 2fdc rs1800 ecu instead knowing that the throttle body and the maf and the coilpack will be the same in the mondy as the rs1800....

this therefore is just to check that the 2.0 cams i have are a higher lift and actually an upgrade and not a straight swap to the normal 1.8 xr2i cams i have in at the moment?????

sorry if this is confusing but i followed bad advice at the start of the conversion and left me in a right ol muddle

2.0 cams are higher lift and duration than the XR2i 16v cams, but are pretty much identical to the RS1800 cams.

(On a side note, the XR2i 16v exhaust cam is actually the same as the 1.6 16v Si exhaust cam!)

Also, the coil pack is no different on the Mondeo to any other Zetec Series 1 or 2 lump, from 1.6 to 2.0 :)

Yeah, that was me

The cams do make a difference, but expect a slight loss of low end poke. You get used to it though, and the engine will still be pulling nice past 6K unlike the 105PS cams where it all kind of drops off about 5.5K.

The car will just pull better in the higher revs, but as a result, you'll lose some torque lower down, but it's not a lot, and you soon get used to it again and learn how to use the power soon enough.

magical.... and just while i have your attention guys.. just wanted to double check (as the ppl ive im'd about this for advice havent replied!!).. all i need for the 130ps conversion is...

throttle body
1.8 maf
2fdc ecu
2.0l spec cams

i do have the right throttle body on (diameter) altho i didnt have to turn that tps sensor upside down (!?!?!?)
and i also have the coilpack altho this makes no diff....

will iridium plugs n diff ht leads make better transmission instead??))

For the full 130PS spec, you need the RS1800 inlet too, although I found mine nicer to drive with the 105PS one... It'll be a preference thing I think... If you want to squeeze every last drop of power out, you'll want it, but see how it goes first :)

Oh, and throttle body size should be fine. The Fiesta TPS didn't physically fit on my Mondeo TB, so not sure exactly how you've done it...

Just normal plugs and leads should be fine for what you're doing :)

With the 2.0 TB and 2.0 TPS in the normal position, the TPS stops the TB fitting properly, or the TPS connector from fitting when the TB is in place... something like that  So people like me have had no choice but to turn the 2.0 TPS around. And the 1.6/1.8 TPS doesn't physically connect to the shaft correctly to function, hence why the 2.0 TPS has to be used.
