Green :o - ooh no.

Shaun - your uniqueness with the orange wheels is safe mate  . As for numbers, yeh maybe a bit of inspiration i admit, always fancied them since i saw an orange Mitsi Evo with goldmember, stuntcock and the number 69 on it at the nurburgring a few years ago lol - you beat me to it though  .

I have the thermostat on mine too. Are you fitting it to the 2.0 ltr or the current engine? Unless you change the oil pump on the 2.0ltr you will need to fit a relocation kit like i did as the angle of the 2.0 ltr filter housing doesnt give you enough room to fit it all in.

Well, hopefully her majesty shouldnt require my services elsewhere next year so I should be making a few more appearances on track. You may well struggle too mate, I've just purchases a set of TB's to go on :D :D

Race battery is a Varley red top 15. was £76 + vat from Rally Design. Never got around to fitting it in the end, will do that in 3 weeks when i'm back next.

Re: 2.0 ltr XR2i Trackcar - 11 Apr 09 - Back to work

Postby Project_XR2i_Trackcar on Sat Apr 11, 2009 9:21 pm

Well, I'm back in UK for a few days and there's no better way to spend it than up the workshop on the old girl.

Unfortunately I've come to the decision that i don't have the time to go down the throttle bodies route as yet so until I do, the set i had have been moved on.

Anyway, today was day one of about 3 full days dedicated fiesta time. The list of jobs to do are as follows:

1. Clean out, tidy and spray interior
2. Fit mounts for 6 point harnesses
3. Fit race battery
4. Secure all cabling
5. Fit plastic windows
6. Fit harness bar
7. Re-fit seats and harnesses
8. fit new switches to dash

Today i managed to do 1, 2 & half of 5

Much tidier

Done quite a bit since the last post but havent taken any pics yet. I'll pop up there later this week with me camera and give it a wash before i take any photos, might blow out the valves on our private road too :D

Since the last pic then:

Race battery all wired in, all cables fixed in place. Dead mans switch hooked up and working. Battery on trickle charge.
Fire Ext all back in.
Seats re-fitted.
Harnesses fitted less rear straps - awaiting tube for harness bar and cage enhancement.
Rear glass removed, polycarb cut and fitted = minus a few kgs.
Rear wiper removed = minus a few more kgs.
Remove drivers and passengers window mechanisms = minus even more kgs.
Fit and wire up new fog light switches.

Still to do before end of week:

See shaun and get plastic for rear window, cut and fit rear window.
Tiger seal front polycarb in place.
Get dash sent away for flocking.
Fill or bung up hole where wiper was.

Good progress mate :D

Get it weighed when the rear polycarb is fitted :Q

Where you getting the flocking done ?

You can buy the plug for the rear wiper hole from Ford,
they were on the lesser spec model mk3s.

FINIS no. 6210856 for the plug
and 6180195 for securing clip

Cheers Shaun

Getting the dash flocked at Suffolk Flocking, it's near Ipswich. The old man is passing by there soon so he's gonna drop it off for me. £120 returned to your doorstep for a Mk3 dash, mine is only half a dash so hoping it'll be slightly cheaper.

I'll pop to fords tomorrow and order that plug

Cheers buddy

Had a busy day friday, nipped down the road to collect the final sheet of plastic from shaun and also got lumbered with 2 spare doors before i left. There's an omen to send it into a tyre wall eh

Seriously, big thanks to shaun though. You are a star mate. Just need to sneek that B&M in my pocket next time I'm by :D

Also, before i left for sausage land I had another delivery of goodies. 2x Anderson plugs and a set of cheap jump leads. For some reason my race battery is either not charging of the alternator or it may be underpowered (its a Red top 15 so it should be :-? ). Anyway, I'm gonna fit an anderson plug within the battery cable circuit and adapt the jump leads so i can boost the power to start when needed.

I've also ordered the bung for the boot from ford.

So, all's left to do before my next trackday is change the rear window, sort the tracking, fit the foot rest and weld in the harness bar which, touch wood, will be done before my next trip back.

Re: 2.0 ltr XR2i Trackcar - Abingdon Trackday

Postby Project_XR2i_Trackcar on Mon Apr 12, 2010 8:43 am

Just done a succussful trackday at Abingdon :D

Image

Image

Image

Image

Didn't get many pics as Abingdon is pants for spectators and I was on my own so some lad I knew there borrowed my camera for a bit. I've got some video but it needs editing so will add that later.

The race battery was a bit tempromental, one time it would fire up straight away, other times i needed to boost it or bump start it. That said, I wasn't the only one though, a couple of other track prepared cars were having battery issues too. It's all soldered and heat shrunk, and I've got more earths now than you can shake a s**t stick at and we bench tested the starter motor so we know that's good too..

Image

It's never been reliable so I think i will buy another and hope it resolves the issues.

The 888's are on their 4th trackday now and are still going strong. Fronts have started to wear but the backs are still as good as new. I think i will be sticking to 888's but ordering them 2 at a time and rotating them through, back to front.

The EBC yellows i fitted are mega :aviator: , bit soft in the morning but once they got bedded in they were bloody awesome. They never faded, I think the most i was out for was 40 mins with a 5-10 min break half way through and they never lost the bite once.

Bit dusty though :o

Image

I put the heater back in last week after freezing my funlumps off and getting misted up last time when it was cold. It was also a god send to have a breeze, with 18 degrees and plastic windows you get the opposite effect in the summer, so i plumbed in some spare ducting i had and directed it towards the driver.....

Vent and heating controls are a bit Heath Robinson for now but, it works ..........

Picked this up Saturday from Shaun (Carbonboy)...

It literally weighs feck all. The spoiler on the floor next to it is heavier, plus Shaun has persuaded me to have his spare carbon fibre bonnet next time I'm home :D .

These also arrived in the post Thursday

The plan was to fit em to the bonnet in place of the cheap pins I have now so i can get it past the gestapo's new rules at the Nurburgring, if i ever get it across the water. As it happens, the carbon bonnet has em already so these will be going on the fibrelass boot lid instead.

Along with the catches I also got this...

The one i have fitted now isn't an FIA item and as such it isolates but doesnt cut the engine, so there's a job for next time  .

That's it for now, I've been and had a quote for the cross member and harness bars, it's a days work at £150 + materials (£10-20 we reckon). Hopefully that will be getting done between now and my next trip back to UK, probably around June sometime.

Otherwise, it's good to go ;)
