Postby Becks on Wed Sep 06, 2006 4:11 pm

Hiya
Im thinking about getting my si 2.0 conversion before the end of the year, due to engine probs with my current 1.6.
Obviously i need to upgrade the brakes, but can i have some thoughts and opinions on which are best....

Cheers Peeps

You're choice in alloy sizes at the front will ultimately determine what size brake discs you can go for.

The weight difference between a 1.6 and 2.0 is nothing, if the brakes are fine you dont need to upgrade them.

PaulC is a scholar.

Becks, what kind of power do you plan on getting out of the engine? With 15's you won't be able to go too crazy with the brakes and to be honest you don't need to with a N/A Zetec. Something like Cossie or ST150 brakes will be more than enough IF you want to upgrade.

My 2.0 was on standard 1.6 brakes and was fine never really worrying, I later upgraded to the ST150 setup which where a lot better than the standard but as above not needed.

The ST150 setup is pretty much the same size/power as the cossie 4x4 setup really.

As the name says they come off the fiesta ST150 so generally most units haven't had too much abuse.

Here is how they look behind my 15's:

The Cossie setup looks pretty much the same as you would guess.

chumkila :PaulC is a scholar.

Thankyou :D But I disagree! An RS1800 has the same vented brakes as an Si, or an xr2i and so is adequate.... an upgrade would be recommended up doesnt have to be rushed before the engine is in and bodged :D

i got my cosworth 4x4 brakes on before the swap i recently had done and obviously with the 1.6 the brakes were overkill but with the 2.0 in they are ok but now i need some red stuff ceramic pads and drilled and grooved discs as with the 2.0 in as you all know it pulls to 80 in bugger all time and with roundabouts coming up quick they fade bad id say just go for the 4pot hi specs with 300mm discs but you do need 16inch wheels

Ive fitted cossy 4x4 ones on my 2.0 si, and tbh you need them. I was burning up my si ones driving around the countryside, so they definetly need to be better than standard if your going to be doing any country driving.

Just because I keep talking about definetly doing it doesn't mean I'm actualy going to do it.

How in Gods name are you getting fade on Cossie brakes? crap disc/pad combo? My mate doesn't get much fade with 400bhp on tap in his Fiesta. :-?

I got very little fade in my old 130bhp XR2i on stock callipers with grooved discs and Mintex pads and that was thrashed round tracks

sorry, crap at explaining! si brakes were constantly fading with 1.6 engine, so with a 2.0 i would never think of keeping the 1.6 brakes. The cossy ones are brilliant and are what i would recomend and havent faded on me! I know some poeple have kept the 1.6 brakes on their 2.0, but i really wouldnt!
